How about if the CFL plays this September, they allow U Sports players going into their Senior year to declare for the draft, and hold a second Canadian draft in August?

Jay Janower (Global BC) posted this:

Breaking News - USports will officially announce cancellation of University Sports across Canada...my understanding is NO Football, Rugby, Soccer or Field Hockey...devastating news for university athletes.

It’s my understanding later starting Sports like Hockey, Basketball and Volleyball still have a chance of being played due to later start. The hope is those Sports who’s seasons start later can still be played...[USports]

The plan is for a January start for Hockey and other Fall Sports like Swimming, Cross Country and Golf. USports taking a serious hit here.

It’s my understanding [USports]has made this decision based on Medical advice, along with concern regarding travel and social distancing. Conferences also didn’t want kids to travel across country to school and then find out there was no season.

Moving forward the plan is for Universities to host training, practices and perhaps exhibitions later in the Fall

The official word from [USport]comes down tomorrow...we’ll hear that basically every school and conference (except perhaps Quebec) will announce no Championship, no League play for contact sports.

U Sport hockey begins in September with tryout/training camps beginning early Sept, so it is unlikely the hockey schedule will go as normal. It is possible a shortened season, beginning much later than normal might occur but still very iffy. If there is a chance of a hockey schedule starting in January, it has not been conveyed to the players at this time. Many rumours but little firm information. However, it would be great if some sports did take place January on.

It appears, the universities will go virtual online education at least for the 1st semester. A number of players still plan to reside in their university location, as housing has already been arranged and contracts signed. Football players will probably still train but with precautions taken.

I'm glad to hear that there will be some type of announcement coming out tomorrow. It is a very uncertain time for all university students, especially the student athlete.

My concern is that some schools may permanently drop certain sports because of this, specifically football because it's the most expensive to operate.
