Somehow judging by the multitude of leagues that have come and gone and the CFL is like Old Man River, I don't think anybody "will lose their sh*t"

Despite McMahon's money, this league is nothing more than a dog with flees.
It will never get off the ground.

    A home for Manziel's talents?

In many respects, Johnny Manziel and the XFL seem like the perfect match, the famous bad boy quarterback performing as the bear on a bicycle in the middle of Vince McMahon’s resurrected three-ring circus of a football league.
But while Manziel immediately expressed interested in the newly re-launched XFL on Thursday McMahon, a staunch conservative and supporter of U.S. president Donald Trump, may not want Johnny Football in his new league for ethical reasons. ...
During the press conference, which was streamed online, Manziel tweeted out “#XFL2020 @VinceMcMahon” then followed it up with an Instagram post that included his #ComeBackSZN hashtag.

“Myself, Vince McMahon and Prez. That’s a brand I can really get behind right there,” Manziel tweeted, referring to a Barstool Sports personality.
The XFL, McMahon and Manziel were all trending on Twitter at one point on Thursday. ...

While Manziel may see the XFL as a viable option, McMahon seemed to rule out the idea. In response to a question about Manziel and fellow quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Colin Kaepernick being invited to play in the league, McMahon said players with a history of “criminality” would be excluded from playing.
“When I said the quality of human being is very important and just as important as the quality of the player what I mean by that you want someone who does not have any criminality whatsoever associated with them,” McMahon said. “In the XFL, even if you have a DUI you will not play in the XFL. That would probably eliminate some of them, not all of them.
“If Tim Tebow wants to play, he could very well play.”
Manziel was charged in January 2016 after being accused of hitting and threatening former girlfriend Colleen Crowley. He reached, and subsequently completed, a dismissal agreement that required him to complete an anger management class, attend a domestic violence impact panel and participate in a substance-abuse program.
Still, under McMahon’s exceedingly broad definition, Manziel would be out – as would a significant portion of players who might be interested.

If Manziel wants to wait another two years, it could be a home for his "talents" but this guy hasn't played since 2015 and needs to get back on the field much sooner than 2020 if he truly wants to revive his career.

Vince is doing this because he's still super sore from all the flack he got from the failure of XFL #1.

He has the cash to get the league off the ground and he'll own all the teams himself, but without a major network backing him I don't see how this can ever grow. It will have to be a streamlined operation that pays players peanuts. Even with that, his money will eventually run out without network revenue, unless maybe there really are enough angry white men down south who hate anthem protests

McMahon is just trying to take advantage of the NFL's issue right now. He doesn't have the money to buy an NFL team, so I guess this is the only way he can be involved in football.

TBH, in a way I'm a little surprised by this, as I seem to recall Vince having an opportunity to buy the UFC, but decided against it, because the match outcomes weren't fixed. Pretty sure he'll take a lot of heat if he tries to fix the matches in football lol.

    The message keeps changing.

Months after it was first rumored, WWE chairman Vince McMahon announced the return of the extreme version of spring professional football. But the thing he announced seemed like it was from bizzaro opposite day from what was expected. ...
What McMahon announced was a tame league, stripped down and respectable. This will be acceptable to a certain type of audience, dog whistling to a type of football fan who expressed outrage with the way players spoke out about ideas that were important to them. But the XFL always was different. It was that way in 2001 when it launched, and that’s exactly what was announced in 2018.
McMahon quipped in the media back in 2000 that the NFL stood for No Fun League.

The NFL wouldn’t let a personality cut a promo at midfield. But that’s what The Rock did during an XFL game. ...

The XFL’s influence reverberates 17 years later because it pushed the NFL’s broadcast product to where it is today. The way we see and hear the game today cribs heavily from the way the NBC presented the XFL product back in that 2001 season.
The original XFL’s crowning achievement was bringing fans in closer to the game.

You know the “in the helmet” sounds you now hear during games?
It gave us QB cadences pre-snap (think about the times you can hear Aaron Rodgers yell “Green 18” or Peyton Manning’s meme-tastic “Omaha”). This addition to broadcasts also produced my favorite Manning moment, when he yelled “goddammit, Donald” at the running back who failed in blitz pickup.

MLS team in Washington sharing "Their natural surface stadium" with a football team. Has that ever been attempted before? 🤔

With the American Alliance of Football starting up in 2019 and the proposed introduction of yet another spring league, the Freedom Football League, the football fields are getting crowded in the spring. Nevertheless, the XFL has given more details about its restart in 2020. Its commissioner and CEO, Oliver Luck, admitted that he knows "we're fighting history to a certain degree when you look back at all the alternative leagues that have existed", but he feels the league has "an excellent chance to be around for a long time".

Luck said the league expects to name coaches and team nicknames, logos and colours in the first quarter of next year. He said each squad will likely sign a quarterback by next summer. Teams will feature 40-man rosters and players will be signed to year-round contracts, with salaries averaging around $75,000. ...

“This is a startup, of course. And (pro wrestling magnate) Vince (McMahon) has made a substantial commitment in terms of capital he’s going to put into the league,” Luck said in an interview. “We’ve got financial plans, budgets for a five-year run. I’m of the opinion that you have to really have multiple years to have a sense of whether it’s working.” ...

“There will be relatively little in common with XFL 2001,” Luck said. “I’ll be the first to admit that the quality of the play in 2001 was not where it needed to be … We have the benefit of really being able to ramp up in the calendar year 2019 and be able to come out of the chute in 2020 playing good, quality football.”

The XFL is going to look at signing Johnny Manziel if he can meet their standards. What standards?

Oh what a surprise. Vince back tracking as soon as a former Heisman winner is available. It's been proven that Manziel does not sell tickets. Whether the XFL signs him or not it will make no difference.

There are conflicting reports on whether Johnny Manziel will be heading to the XFL. They can have him. He'd fit right in with this league considering who owns it.

With seven XFL Summer Showcases down and one more to go July 13th. Between potential players and a pending team name and logos announcement. The buzz around the XFL is continuing to grow.
One name left out of the Summer Showcase mix so far has been one of the most notable free agents in football, Johnny Manziel. The former Heisman trophy winner and former first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns has been a name tied to the new XFL. But is the XFL that interested in him? ...

Manziel is from Texas and is a big name in that state. So speculation that he would wind up with one of the Texas XFL franchises is high. However, he did not appear in the XFL Dallas and XFL Houston Summer Showcase events. What made the situation even odder was that he was actually in Houston at the time doing an autograph signing.

During the XFL Summer Showcase in Washington, DC, Oliver Luck was explicitly asked about Manziel joining the XFL by USA Today, he said “Well, I don’t know that yet,” Luck told USA TODAY Sports. “That remains to be seen.” He went on to say that the XFL Showcase is in part about getting some tape and stats on potential XFL players.
There is plenty of tape on Manziel from his NFL, CFL and AAF days. As well as knowledge of him from current XFL coaches like June Jones who coached him briefly with the Hamiton Tight-cats of the CFL and Marc Trestman, a longtime coach in the CFL. ...

Then around that same time of the XFL Summer Showcase in Texas. Beacher Report came out with different news concerning Johnny Manziel and the XFL. “According to one source, the XFL believes it’s only a matter of time before Manziel joins the league. The XFL and its teams are simply taking their time in evaluating the former Heisman Trophy winner.”

I am on the edge of my seat awaiting the XFL to reveal team names and logos. I can't wait for more football after the NFL season has ended.

Don't worry, everything Vince MacMahon Jr has tried outside of wrestling has failed. ICOPRO, WBF, XFL, wife's political ambitions etc

Multiple forward passes allowed, but only prior to the ball crossing the line of scrimmage.
no kicking converts, but 1, 2 and 3 point converts from 2, 5 and 10 yard lines respectively.

Absolute Gimmick football. What is even less popular in the US than Spring football? Spring Gimmick football.

Remember the XFL when instead of the kickoff the two guys ran towards the ball and IIRC the very first time one of the guys got injured.

I don't think spring football is the issue, the USFL damn near made it, might have done if it wasn't for a certain NFL wannabe named Trump. But since then no one has showed the desire or resources to stay with it for the long haul.

The USFL hurt the CFL a bit because the CFL raised salaries and it hurt them. They learned that lesson and hopefully won't repeat it.
