Catherine Raiche Joining Argos' Front Office

Catherine Raiche is leaving the Als behind and moving up in the world from that chaos to join the Argos' front office. No doubt Popp's familiarity with her work had considerable influence in the hiring decision.

Raiche is set to join the Toronto Argonauts front office after she resigned from the Alouettes in December. She had been granted permission to pursue other opportunities in advance of leaving Montreal.
The University of Sherbrooke graduate was hired by Jim Popp, then-Als GM and current Argos general manager, as an unpaid intern in 2015. Following the season, Popp offered her a paid job as coordinator of football administration. She has a law degree and was admitted to the Quebec Bar Association in 2012. She practised corporate and tax law for three years at the law firm Gascon & Associates but quit the firm to join the Alouettes.
When Kavis Reed replaced Popp as Alouettes general manager before last season, he promoted Raiche to assistant general manager responsible for daily operations, managing the salary cap, determining the value of players and handling contractual duties.

Raiche was the first female assistant general manager in the CFL since 1988 when Jo-Anne Polak held that position with the Ottawa Rough Riders. ...
Raiche has gone on the record stating that her goal is to be a general manager one day.

Raiche will be Director of Football Administration. Chantal Covington, who was previously with the Als and RedBlacks, has also been added as Executive Assistant to the General Manager and Player Personnel.
It's good to see diversification increasing women's role in football.

On her first day on the job, Popp announces that Catherine Raiche, who has just escaped Montreal, will accompany him and Commissioner Randy Ambrosie to the NFL Women's Careers in Football Conference at the end of the month, showing in one day he can show more PR skills than the current Alouettes administration has shown in one year. Football Operations/Scout Uzooma Okeke is also jumping overboard from the Alouettes, further indicating how widespread the chaos is.

NFL Director of Football Development Samantha Rapoport noted the strong presence of the Argos at the Women's Careers in Football Conference.

The CFL will be represented, with commissioner Randy Ambrosie, Toronto Argonauts GM Jim Popp and the organization’s newest hire, Catherine Raiche — who was named director of football administration on Jan. 18 — attending. Football ops officials from the CFL will also be attending the forum.
“We will be pairing (the Canadian women) up with Randy, Catherine and Jim and there are several breakout sessions for them to meet,” Rapoport said.
“These women are not only great women for the CFL pipeline but they’re also very well-connected to females that love football in Canada. They can help expand their pipeline for females entering into football in Canada.
“I think it’s incredible for them to see Catherine Raiche in that position and to have someone to speak to at that level. But I think it takes incredible men too, like Jim and Randy who believe in the power of diversity and giving people opportunities that don’t necessarily look like everyone that’s been hired in the past.”

Eagles hired Catherine Raiche as their football operations coordinator, per league sources. It’s the latest high-profile hire of a woman to an NFL front-office position. Raiche was assistant GM for the Montreal Alouettes, then worked for Toronto Argonauts and Tampa XFL franchise. @adamschefter

One of Catherine Raiche first player inputs seems to result in Alex Singleton being cut by the Eagles. I heard he had a 15 tackle preseason game.

You have to wonder...what more can a guy do to make the team? PR bound I would imagine. Shows that preseason game performance means little. If he was a draft pick he would be on the roster. See Adam Bighill.

Lots of former CFL players have been the among the best during NFL preseason and most of them are still being cut. Just goes to show that high draft picks will get more chances even if they're not the best players on their teams.

Or that preseason games that mostly involve guys who do not have veteran status are not the primary way players are judged.

Reportedly, Singleton will come back to the CFL before accepting a PR spot.

The NFL pre-season is getting so pointless, it’s ridiculous. I understand resting your starters, but they hardly play at all now. Off season training is more than ever and that’s a big factor. What’s the point of having hopefuls play all four games, (some outstanding like Singleton or Williams in Buffalo) and get cut anyway? Waste of everyone’s time, including fans. No wonder no one likes to watch or attend the games anymore.

People make fun at CFL pre-season. I would argue it’s actually more important. Players actually play their way on or off CFL teams. Stakes seem way higher.

The NFL owners realize it's pointless. The situation is coming to a head in this NFL CBA negotiation. There is too much money to be had to not go to an 18 game season.I am not looking forward to what those consequences will be for the CFL and the Argonauts.
