Do people really think the Argonauts employees haven't been trying to sell tickets over the years ?
Manning mentioned from his first interview that he was going to tarp part of the stadium. I don't like it and don't think it works. If I were president, I'd make that side way cheaper and get that message out to the community especially to families (hard to justify buying for a family of 5 unless they are a good deal) and to the college crowd.
The major difference now between the John Candy era is the blackout. The fanbase seems to be quite happy to watch the games on TV.

Blackouts were first lifted for Argos home games in 1988. I know for a fact because the 2 games I missed that year I was able to tape and watch later that night. And you are right. After that the only games not available were games in which there was no television broadcast on the schedule.

That sounds right to me. For reference here's the thread on this issue from 2012.

If you had CHEX Peterborough would that have saved you from the blackout?

GO ARGOS!!!
I guess if you could catch it on over the air reception, yes, but not with cable if you lived within the blackout radius. I had CHEX Peterborough through my cable company (loved those old cable converters with the wire), and I recall the game would be blacked out s long as you lived withing the blackout range. If the game managed to go past the allotted 3 hrs of broadcast time, the blackout would end with the allotted time, and you would get the last few minutes before they signed off.

I recall a blackout being lifted for an early season Toronto/Hamilton thriller in 1987 on CHCH-TV. It was the Argos' first win of the season. I believe that they experimented with lifting the odd blackout from 1987 to 1990 but it was only with the McNall/Gretzky/Candy ownership of 1991 that lifting of blackouts became permanent (or close to it). There was a blackout or two imposed in 1998 in Toronto but, after those blackouts did nothing to improve crowds, the idea was quickly scrapped. Blackouts remained in Hamilton until Bob Young took over ownership and then they tried them again in 2009 IIRC but, once again, they did nothing to improve crowds so they were quickly scrapped again.

Hello!! The medium-term plan is to build a second, overhanging deck on the west side. That is why they built the canopy so high over the west side, to accommodate a second deck underneath. It'll put capacity, what, in the 33K-35K range, just in time for the surge in Argo demand. These guys have it all figured out.
i miss seeing the skydome almost full, candy bein a shameless promoter of the CFL and the argos winning
that huckster mcnall should still b in jail, he helped indirectly/directly cause candy death

Honestly I'm not terribly against it, when TFC started out the upper east stands didn't even exist, they created demand with the seats that they did have and did a great job at it. The 20k or so seats that would be left over if we tarped the upper east is a good starting point, use the lower east as a group area since the majority of STH seem to be on the west.
Tarped seats can look great if it's done right, you forget the fact that those are unsold seats and it makes for a better experience. Make the tarps pictures of past Argo players, if you do it wrong and make it more ad space or just a plain tarp it's terrible. I'd rather see tarps of Argo players and Cup winning years rather than the depressing sea of red seats we're normally treated to
