Former Argo Jeff Keeping Re-elected CFLPA President

Former Argo centre Jeff Keeping has been re-elected CFLPA President in a close election. Peter Dyakowski who the Argos signed as a free agent in February 2017 and then traded to the Riders in May 2017 was re-elected treasurer.

It was a tight race, but Jeff Keeping remains president of the CFLPA. ...
Keeping, the retired Canadian offensive lineman, was up against former Stampeders defender Keon Raymond for the top executive position.First vice-president Marwan Hage was elected to remain in his role. There are two new members voted to the executive with the addition of Lions linebacker Solomon Elimimian as the second vice president, and B.C. fullback Rolly Lumbala as the third vice president. Peter Dyakowski of the Saskatchewan Roughriders has also been re-elected as treasurer of the CFLPA.
Keeping succeeded Scott Flory as president in 2016. Flory was in charge in 2014 during the last round of collective bargaining which saw the salary cap jump from $4.4 million to $5 million with increases of $50,000 annually over the five-year pact.

Interesting that National Keeping beat out International Raymond for the position. Hopefully, Nationals and Internationals can come together for this next round of bargaining.

And the Americans are still not happy. Brandon Whitaker is a prime example.

Keon Raymond tweeted out his displeasure that the "majority" aren't prepared to give equal status to the concerns of the "minority." On the face of it, the players remain as divided as ever, with NATs and INTs having different interests. Owners must be licking their chops for another pounding at the table.

And for good reason. They know who the Canadian Offensive line board will help out.
Anyone else recall how quickly to PA and League agreed on the League minimum going up a measly $5k ?

CFLPA better get their act together or they’ll get steamrolled again at the bargaining table.

American players now make up the majority in the "radically canadian" (sic) CFL now - thanks to changes to roster rules by the CFL BOG/GOB clowns in the past - that the CFLPA was powerless to stop. Americans should be able to seize control of the CFLPA union if they really wanted to, and make changes/policy that favors their guys - wouldn't be surprised to see this happen down the road; and if the GOBs & BOGs have their way with even less Canadian players in favor of more Americans, with an Atlantic expansion team (guaranteed some GOBs and their dupes in the media will be lobbying for this) - it would be easy for the CFLPA to be dominated by Americans with policy for their guys.

I hope the players get something substantial, but considering how often and easy they were to break in the past I'm not holding my breath.

This really isn't any different than the NFLPA or the MLBPA. All three have failed to realize that you have to have significant raises in the league minimum or you'll basically have a league of 30-40 guys making 65 percent of the money.

The NFL's league minimum compared to its revenues is a joke.

I would hope the CFLPA would push for a league minimum around $63K. But even that may be pushing it. If it doesn't, then it needs to push for a dramatic increase in the playoff money for the division semifinals and finals.

The vast majority of player reps are veterans in all sports because younger players are afraid that early interest in union activity could cost them their job. As a result of this, CAs tend to favour veteran interests.

Agreed. A few years ago the Yankees had 2 players (maybe more?) that had individual salaries higher than the entire Astros payroll.
