    Argonauts' negotiation list

Today, teams released the names of ten players from their (45 player) neg lists. The plan is for each team to disclose ten players twice a year, but we don't know yet how this will be used. These are the players Toronto disclosed so far:

    Houston Bates (LB) Louisiana Tech
    Charles James (DB) Charleston Southern
    Will Likely (DB) Maryland
    Nico Marley (LB) Tulane
    Keshawn Martin (WR) Michigan State
    Baker Mayfield (QB) Oklahoma
    Jonathan Meeks (DB) Clemson
    Aaron Murray (QB) Georgia
    Denard Robinson (RB/QB) Michigan
    Rodney Smith (WR) Florida State

For what it's worth, Dunk seems enthusiastic about Robinson, Murray, Martin, and James.

Mayfield won't talk to us for a few years (at best) but there are some good players on our list. More transparency please!

Chrisi O'Leary identified RB Denard Robinson and QB Aaron Murray as players with more prominence, but Murray may not want to give up his more secure job as a colour commentator for CBS Sports to pursue football again.

TOR – Denard Robinson, RB, 6-0, 215 pounds
Robinson is listed as a running back but he’s all about diversity. The 27-year-old was drafted into the NFL by Jacksonville in 2013 as a running back, but he started 26 games at QB for Michigan, before adding running back and receiver duties to his resume for his senior year in 2012. He spent four years on the Jaguars’ roster, rushing for 1,041 career yards on 259 carries and adding 310 yards receiving off of 47 passes.
An unsigned free agent, Robinson could conceivably play a utility role in the CFL, similar to what Kendal Lawrence, Roy Finch or Declan Cross have. Or maybe he’d want to zero in on one specific position. Kerry Joseph spent five years in the NFL as a safety before going back to the QB spot when he came north.
TOR – Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia, 6-1, 207 pounds
Murray is an interesting choice for the Argos. He had a brilliant college career at Georgia, finishing as the SEC’s leader in career touchdowns. He tore his ACL in his second-last game as a senior in 2013 and was chosen in the fifth round of the NFL Draft in 2014 by Kansas City. He bounced from there to Arizona and Philadelphia in 2016 and was under contract to the LA Rams briefly in the 2017 off-season.
On Aug. 1 last year, the 27-year-old became a colour commentator for the CBS Sports Network. His media gig aside, his path to the CFL isn’t that different from many of its present QBs. Would a shot at extending his career be enticing enough to get him out of the booth on a college game day?

How likely is it that Will Likely will ever wear an Argo uniform? 😅

I agree with Popp, with the SMS there's no need for the neg list anymore. And, considering how many QB's BC has on their neg list, it's no wonder Wally is always "finding" QB's.

This has to stop. We are agreeing on way too much lately.

As an outside observer I hate to say this but I disagree.

It was more entertaining on the forum when you two were disagreeing all the time.😂

That was always one of my beefs with the neg list. A few teams hoarding skill players (QB's) to try and extract draft picks from the bottom feeders for players they would never sign because they didn't need them.
I agree with Popp and others to just get rid of the lists. We need parity in the league and with the salary cap it all levels out, just look at the free agent signings every year. Teams chore up a weak spot and pass on players where they are strong.
But if the majority of GM's some how keep the list in place, hopefully Ambrosie can convince them to limit each position to maybe 5 players to stop teams from hoarding players that they will never need.

I'd like to see the neg list completely gone, but if not, I hope Ambrosie can push for the neg list to be no larger than 15 as opposed to the current 45, and no more than 3 QB's.
I've read that some GM's see the neg list as a type of American draft, but that makes little sense to me, because there's very little order to it, and it's simply a free for all/first come first serve system.

I'll add that any player not eligible for the NFL draft should not be eligible for a neg list either. Freshman and Sophomores on a neg list is ridiculous.

He should play for the Bills.

He'd make a great soldier, in Buffalo.

Denard Robinson in an Argo jersey – the dream is becoming a reality!

I’m being slightly sarcastic here, I know he doesn’t have the arm strength to play QB on the big field.

I just recall going to see him play in NCAA games and dreaming about what he’d do on a CFL field. Then again, I said the same thing about Jeremy Gallon and he didn’t last through training camp here.
