    Marcus Brady leaving for NFL

The Argo offence just got better by his departure? Discuss. Justin Dunk is reporting he is going to Indy Colts.

Just got better? was winning the Grey Cup because of the players or the "O" coach? or both?

Doesn't he have to stay until the end of his contract?....................oh wait that only applies to players, Brady won't have sit out a year before he can be hired.

In all seriousness, next man up. Tommy Condell is ready to slide in, and Ricky Ray can begin to get a feel for QB/Receiver (probably un-officially). Jim Popp has announced his staff for the new season; still to come, is Marc Trestman. I am way more concerned about Chamblin, but we seem to be seeing some signs that he may indeed be moving on -- as reported by 3DN.

This kind of proves the point that both James Wilder and Victor Butler make. Amazing how a coach can be let out of contract to pursue NFL opportunities, yet a player, who has less years to do so, can't. I'm with Wilder 100% on this, and I realize that is an unpopular take among many on here.

Agreed. I'm more concerned about the DC job. I hope Chamvlin comes back. Marc Trestman calls the plays and it is his offence.

The technical answer--no CBA for coaches.

True. There is no coaches union or CBA but they do have contracts like players.

Given the lateness of this announcement, I assume that Condell is the next man up?

That is a CFL cop out IMO. As Scooter said, a contract is a contract. If a player can't be let out of it, neither should a coach.

Not sad to see him go, but more than a bit unfair that Popp allows Brady and Chamblin out of their contracts, yet Butler and Wilder can't get out of theirs.

We have Condell, and Trestman runs the offense anyways, I doubt anyone notices Brady gone.

It is silly, of course, he's leaving for greener pastures--which is what Wilder and Butler want to do.

Yeah lets just forget about the CBA, which is something the players wanted originally, and release players whenever they want. You either have a CBA where contracts are enforced as fairly as possible across the board, or you get rid of it, and its a free for all. A contract is a contract, but the CBA changes how a contract must be enforced. How a team enforces a contract with one player, affects how any team enforces a contract with any other player, BECAUSE of the CBA. There's no such thing with coaches, at least not written and enforceable. It may seem hypocritical but its not something the players as a whole didn't agree to. Things like CBA's are often double edged swords that cut both ways. Some people love it when it cuts one way, but woe is me when it cuts the other way.

Wow. Another move out of left field, or is that right field. Good for Marcus. I like others have always got the feeling that he just relayed the message from Scott or Marc and didn't really call the plays in most cases. But he would have been learning all the time.
I expect the Trestman factor had something to do with this move, and they may have also talked to Scott Milanovich. Milo seems to be getting some credit for helping the Jags QB's this past season.
Condell should be ok if he's the replacement. Trestman is the QB guru so they are ok there as well.

I think we will all notice Brady is gone if Condell takes over. Condell style on offence while in Hamilton was much different from what the Argos run today. Hope Trestman dictates completely how the O is run for the sake of continuity. Just MO

Condell is the logical choice to be Brady's replacement. However, I do not believe the concepts will radically change with his promotion.

He has 1st hand knowledge as to what it takes to move the ball and keep Ricky productive.

Heck, Edwards, Green and Coombs might be in line for more touches, if we can't find anyone to run the ball (Malena?)

I've never understood this line of thinking. There is a hell of a lot more to being an OC than calling plays. He was obviously very good at helping to put together a game plan or he wouldn't have stayed employed.

I especially like the part where Dunk tries to make a connection between Reich and Milanovich as being a reason why the Colts have interest in Brady. Because they both played at Maryland. Reich and Milanovich played 10 years apart in college, and their pro paths have never crossed. That is a huge reach.

New Indy head coach Frank Reich was a quarterback at the University of Maryland, the same school where former Argos bench boss and current Jacksonville Jaguars quarterbacks coach Scott Milanovich played. Brady spent eight seasons, from 2009 to 2016, on coaching staffs with Milanovich, first in Montreal and then Toronto. That’s the Colts connection.

Trestman in Montreal and in his introductary press conference in Toronto made it clear who runs the offense on his teams. I would imagine that Trestman accepts input from his coaching staff, but it's his playbook, game plan, and him calling the plays. If Condell is named OC, I don't think much will change, not to mention that Condell worked under Trestman and his offense last season.
