We didn't get Messam, but there is an intriguing big back in this years Canadian draft by the name of David Mackie out of the Western University. Listed at 6'3 246 and is on the initial list invited to the Combine. He also long snaps as well which should help his cause. Argos have a good long snapper but it is always a good idea to have someone on the roster to back up. I will be interested to see how he performs March 24-25.

Mackie got invited to a US scouting event awhile back along with some other Canadian/CIS players.

A big load fullback who played in that powerhouse Western offence - his blocking was probably a factor with their big run game and they used him as a receiver some.

Don't think the Argos have any need there with Cross in place - but they might like him for depth at fullback, plus maybe he could win the long-snapper job.

Makes much more sense for another CFL team to draft him perhaps; and maybe some other CFL teams noticed how much of a factor Cross could be at H-back and will want to add a similar capability player ? The Bombers lost their fullback Chris Normand in FA - but he barely played in their offence.

current long snapper is exceptional but depth does not hurt

big body and if he is a good blocker and can catch passes in the flats would be a very welcome addition in the argos off. backfield

Again - Cross already does that job, and quite well; so why use a higher draft pick on a guy who would just be "depth"? Bigger fish to fry in the draft IMO, but if Mackie was still available in the later rounds, then sure, maybe.

He was actually heavier than that. Anyways what is your point! What is your issue with Cross play last season.

How many carries will Martese Jackson get? Wilder just said he and Jackson are the best 1-2 punch (or something like that) in the league.

i think cross played well but he didnt strike me as playing great, maybe this is his year, i did like his his 2 x 2 pt coverts in 2017 gc
    .
wilder, messam, cross would have made for a formidable backfield, especially for an aging and injury prone ray and really help out a young qb - and messam is very hungry for a ring, is a local boy - and is not expensive [he took a pay cut to join the green riders]
but that is all water under the brandon bridge now

Think Cross did what was asked of him, including being rated by his peers. Maybe check your Fullback stats and tell me who played better.

Why are you harping on about Messam? He did not sign with the Argos, he is not coming to the Argos, can we all pls move on?

Cross did not score any TD's in the GC, he ran the "Fullback" plays that he was asked to. If you would prefer that Cross be traded as clearly you are not a fan then that is OK, the kid will continue to develop his skills with or without you as a fan.

I guess I should have added he is probably a 3rd or 4th round pick this year. We all should understand 90% of the players being drafted on any given year won't be starting right away. Don't worry Cross will start unless injured and will rotate with one of the Canadian receivers depending on the situation. But depth is important and if the Argos could add Mackie he would probably start the season on the PR or injured list, and when an injury or his readiness happens he would get his chance. From what I saw of him this past year he is a punishing lead run blocker, has pretty good hands out of the back field and gets down field quickly on punt or kick returns. Be interesting to see his 40 time, I'm guessing around 4.8 which wouldn't be bad for a guy his size. At the very least he will probably have a long career in the CFL as a long snapper as he is rated the best one coming out this year.

And he easily did the most of any CFL H-back last season - a good part of the offence, and maybe he will see even more playing time this season ?

More or a return specialist IMO - doubt he plays much on offence, but maybe; like to see the Argos give newly acquired RB Morris - he flashed some talent with the Riders - a real shot to contribute as the main back behind Wilder; plus draft Alex Taylor or another back for TC competition.
