Edmonton Releases Former Argo Cory Greenwood

The Eskimos have released Cory Greenwood, who missed all of the 2017 season after tearing his ACL in TC. Since returning from the NFL, he has been injury-prone, playing 8 games in 2015 and 12 in 2016. However, he played all possible 48 games in the NFL. At 31, he could still be worth a look in Argo TC, IMO.

Adam Konar emerged as a real good linebacker in place of Greenwood when he got injured last season; and Sherritt is returning at MLB; guess Greenwood is too costly and maybe a risk to stay healthy.

Greenwood & Plesius = two very talented and former top CFL draft rated linebackers - both kicking around now as cut free agents - be interesting to see if they find anymore CFL work; if the Bummers are unable to sign Muamba (heard he was leaning towards the Als who are offering more money?) - why would they not take a shot at either of Greenwood or Plesius ? - either could maybe be a real good signing to fill their vacant MLB job - but they might be pencilling-in for a cheaper young import there ? Ottawa and Sask. have big question marks at MLB too.

Greenwood wouldn't come cheap, and I suspect his injury was probably a career-ender. It's too bad we never got to see what he could have become up here -- possibly another Mike O'Shea-type career. But good on him for sticking in the NFL for so long out of CIS.

Why would both he and the Esks not have announced his injury was a career-ender if that was the case? IF it has been determined - even recently - he can't possibly recover enough to even compete in a TC - then why not just admit it?

Kyries Hebert gets signed by Ottawa for yet another CFL go - i doubt he came cheap, and he's how many years older than Greenwood ?

Hebert has been healthy throughout his career. Huge difference there.

Sometimes players aren't ready to admit they are done even when the evidence indicates otherwise. I have no inside knowledge that this is the case here. But teams deciding a guy can't recover enough from an injury to be worth keeping is a frequent occurrence in all sports.

True; but there have also been many cases of players proving their previous team wrong in releasing them; i get that the Esks have good linebackers in Sherritt & Konar to play spots where Greenwood is a fit, and this might be mostly an $M$ move, or along with lack of confidence the guy can't get healthy. IF he is able to still play though - love to see that - and there are multiple CFL teams with big questions marks in their linebacking corps' .

I agree -- hope he's not finished. But ACL is tough to recover from, and he has a fair bit of mileage on him at this point. Guess we'll see if anyone signs him. By waiting until FA dollars are mostly spent, the Esks did him no favours if he does want to still play.

He was exactly like O'Shea, first downfield while making the ST tackle, then lining up next down for a stop on D. Incredible endurance, smarts and more athletic than O'Shea. Should have been our star for years,,,bummer.

believe he has to pass a physical on his knee, before they can release him. that reflects the timing
