Game Thread - Week 3- RedBlacks at Stampeders - Thursday June 28th

Ottawa definitely looked improved compared to last year in its win over the Riders. However, Calgary's savage thumping of the Argos makes them strong favourites, especially with them playing at home.

Those who wrote off Calgary prior to the season did so at their peril.

People do this every season, it seems.

A bit of an exaggeration to say people wrote them off don't you think?
From what I saw before the season started, most pundits had them finishing second in the west - as did I.

Calgary barely got by the Tiger-Cats, trounced an inept Argonauts group (to be fair though, the Stampeders DID look very effective in that game), and were helped by an ineffective performance by the REDBLACKS.

Nonetheless, the Stampeders HAVE won all three games.
Good teams find a way to win (last night it was an impressive red zone stand that did the trick IMO), and the Stamps are doing that.

I don't know about pundits, by I saw some fan predictions on message boards of Calgary finishing third or fourth in the West.

Betting against Calgary on the basis of loss of key personnel is never wise, as it has repeatedly found replacements at least as good for almost a number of years - a clear sign of great management. However, their attendance has been falling since 2015 when they were getting 28,000 for their first two games. This year the first two games attracted only 23,000.

The Stamps could easily be 1 & 2 - with their only win courtesy of a pathetic Argo performance.

As PullTogether says though - good teams find a way to win.

Another average to mediocre performance by Bo Mitchell - again, often way too inaccurate on deeper throws - guy misses so many open receivers, I can't find a way to consider him an elite level CFL QB (plus he is next to no running threat for a QB); ... nice hair, er, winning percentage though. ;o)

I have to agree, Mitchell has not looked particularly impressive this year, especially on the longer throws. It was fortunate for the Stampeders that Trevor Harris and his receivers were even worse last night.

I think the biggest reason both QBs struggled was because both teams were really good on D. Mitchell and Harris consistently had their first reads either taken away or lead to incompletions, and to me they often looked confused.

Difference is the Stamps sustained it for 60 minutes, and after the goal-line stand (your TSN Turning Point), Mitchell made some plays down the stretch. That was a great throw on first down from the one.
