Unfortunately for many reasons it didn’t work out that way, coaching, scheme, O-Line and last but certainly not least James Franklin himself who failed to take advantage of the opportunities given to him.
You are completely correct about this. When Franklin was our starter going into last season, there was an air in Argo Land ranging from cautious optimism to downright excitement. The posts on these boards from back then prove it.

I have no problem with humour, here or elsewhere; hence my post above. As I think I explained at the time this first came up, I don't have much use for contrived attempts to invent nicknames. When there is a valid reason for the nickname (e.g. Pinball really did look like a pinball bouncing around quickly; Gizmo resembled a movie character with that name, etc.), it's easy to understand why they catch on. But not all attempts catch on. Trestman was smart, but I didn't expect anyone to start calling him the Professor. And as it turned out, it wouldn't have been an appropriate nickname because his defining characteristics here turned out to be stubbornness, bull-headedness or even bullying (or some combination thereof). Not exactly professorial. To paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen, "Trestman was no Frank Clair."

Just say that you don't like it, and that'll be that for that. The name didn't start here. Marc Trestman has been casually referred to 'as the Professor' for over 25 years; in Montreal, in the NFL, a long time. Its a nickname that makes perfect sense to me, and to many. However, not really something of much consequence overall.

I did say I did not like it. Some took exception to that at the time. And I was asked again the other day to explain myself, which I did.

(That link does not incorporate the word "professor" as a nickname, FWIW. Just a headline.)

But definitely not of any consequence.

Having only read about the Great Frank Clair, the only Professor I knew in my youth was Russell Johnson.

Isn't James Franklin ALWAYS happy? Isn't that part of what makes him so flawed?
