I don't want him in my backfield.
TORONTO ARGONAUTS FOOTBALL CLUB
GREY CUP CHAMPIONS: 1914, 1921, 1933, 1937, 1938, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1950, 1952, 1983, 1991, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2012, 2017, 2022
The Argos could probably easily have acquired both Messam (in his prime) or Bridge, but the people running CFL teams have mostly little to no use for signing local guys who are quality players and who could maybe help their team - on the field and with marketing. The Argos have never had any use for this concept, but have always been on the all-american hero saviour band-wagon. The Bummers may be buying into this concept some - with Harris, Demski, LaFrance in the fold, but I'm not sure it is part of a real plan (dullard Walters could have drafted Winnipeg native Jordan Herdman as a MLB prospect a couple of years back, but i guess chose to write-off his outstanding college ball D resume cause of his 40 time; so he could draft back-ups or special teamers only).
CFL teams saying Canadian talent is so important & critical to them, continues to be mostly a tired cliche or fairy-tale. Desjardins & Campbell in Ottawa is showing their GOB favortism towards any import players they can find and hand playing time to mostly when he has the option to give playing time to some Canadian talent (they won the GC in starting 10 to 12 NIs - not just 7 = morons) but maybe some Ottawa fans rally to Sinopoli and now young kicker Lewis Ward being key parts of their team? Still a far cry from the days of the likes Russ Jackson, Ronnie Stewart, Whit Tucker, Moe Racine, Joe Poirier, Wayne Giardino, Gerry Organ - being key, star Canadian fixtures on a powerhouse team.

good try
but macspectrum is/was a keen supporter of argos
and i think local boys are much more easily marketed than a stadium with illegal end zone depth and one end zone with a completely different surface ! [by the way declan cross is cdn]
i just imagine an argos backfield w/ bridge as qb, messam and wilder [both big boys and both can catch]
and bridge rolls out with option to pass or run and run he can as demonstrated in 2017 east final
and somehow we fans are supposed to ignore this like the cfl and commish does !
shame on him
-----
it really makes cfl look very unprofessional and players notice too
=------
once again i am not an agent
oh by the way 'arrested' and 'charged' by police is very different from being found guilty
police make lots of mistakes
i have been to court twice on criminal charges [i wont into each case any more than that except to say violence was NEVER involved]
both times i was found 'not guilty' - but it cost me $ to get a lawyer
police and prosecuting atty did not apologize
so i am a little biased
------
just good i didnt play pro baseball or football
I find this story disturbing on a number of levels. First off I wouldn't want him on the Argos either. This guy is a knucklehead going all the way back to his BC Lion days. On the other hand in this country you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Obviously the Riders have the right to release him for any reason but for the CFL to ban him while his case is before the courts seems like a dangerous decision on the Commissioner's part. If a team were to try to sign him and the CFL refuses to accept that contract would it not open the league up to legal action by Messam? Just curious.
"The CFL Players Association says the league’s decision to suspend players who have been charged with a crime may be in contravention of the collective bargaining agreement."

Would any employer fire an employee who was charged but not had their day in court? I can understand if the crime was made against the employer, theft etc
That dude that tossed a beer can at the out fielder a couple years ago at RC during a Jays playoff game (not this year haha) got fired from his media job....that mouthy TFC fan that sexually harrased that female reporter a couple years ago got fired too, but was subsequently rehired.
It would be a shame if he was found innocent. He claims to be not guilty. Messem's reputation isn't going to help him though.
I knew that TFC fan, a Hydro One employee, would get his job back. In fact, he was fully compensated for his year off. A lot of these decisions are knee jerk/damage control reactions without seriously consulting the rules or law.
