And as a little note - they won the 2 biggest games of the year in doing so. But OMG, there is so little Canadian talent for CFL teams ??? What a crock of $hite.

And sorry again to disappoint all you CFL cliche/fairy tale subscribers who have been taught to have so little respect for Canadian talent in general, and to believe CFL teams are oh so taxed to find 7 only Canadian "starters". Why don't you go start your own "Ratio Problem" CFL site where the usual suspect CFL "fans" could bleat "ratio problem" over & over again, bad-mouth Canadian football talent, and piss & moan for the ratio to be reduced or eliminated. Have Greaseball Trump provide an intro tweet, and all the members could go on chat to hold hands and sing God Bless America together. ;0)

By that logic, any team declaring 7 Canadians actually starts 10 due to short yardage plays, and maybe more due to other substitutions. Nice job moving the goalposts.

Fact is Ottawa in 2016 never declared more than 9 Canadian starters, who by definition can only be replaced by other Canadians if they leave the game. Lafrance was never declared as such.

They were also able to go to 9 in September because all the cap space they gained from so many early season injuries allowed them to sign Laing. Otherwise it would have been 8.

One point of clarification. I think if you declare and start nine NATs, you can replace two of them with INTs at any time.

I'll try to clarify for you since you don't seem able to grasp the concept: Ottawa - in that 2016 GC run (East play-off & GC) gave lots of playing time to - combined, on offence & defence - 12 Canadian players ... and they won the GC in doing so. And in other words, they did not seem hampered by some sort of "ratio problem" in finding capable & contributing NI players ... as per some typical cliched whining & moaning, from some CFL GOBs and their lemming like "fan" commentators - as featured on some CFL discussion sites.

I could care less, if for CFL purposes, those Canadian players were "declared" as "starters".

Thank you for explaining it better than I clearly did - In my haste I wrote it completely wrong lol.

By the same token, Argos gave significant playing time in last year's Grey Cup to eight NATS on offence and five on defence.

Bomben and Cross got reps Thursday in situations other than short yardage.

Yeah - the Argos had plenty of NI contributors in that GC run; unsung sort of heroes like Cross or Matt Black with that huge pick.

Not sure who the 5 on D were - outside of Laing, Gabriel and Black ? - which other NI defenders saw plenty of playing time.

If Jerome Messam is found not guilty (or the charges are simply dropped), I would expect major legal action against the CFL on his part even if no other team wants to sign him.

Would any employer fire an employee who was charged but not had their day in court? I can understand if the crime was made against the employer, theft etc

That dude that tossed a beer can at the out fielder a couple years ago at RC during a Jays playoff game (not this year haha) got fired from his media job....that mouthy TFC fan that sexually harrased that female reporter a couple years ago got fired too, but was subsequently rehired.

It would be a shame if he was found innocent. He claims to be not guilty. Messem's reputation isn't going to help him though.

I knew that TFC fan, a Hydro One employee, would get his job back. In fact, he was fully compensated for his year off. A lot of these decisions are knee jerk/damage control reactions without seriously consulting the rules or law.

Not really. He has been charged, which mean guilt or innocence is to be determined. At this point, he is legally neither, but authorities obviously feel they have enough evidence to charge him.

Yes you are right, but BOTH were re-hired because they threatened to sue their employer and the employer realized they had not right to fire them. The employers re-acted to the media outrage but then realized that they could get into legal trouble since the offenses were not against them (the employer)
If the beer tosser was a Rogers employer it would have been a different story. With the guy that yelled FHINTC, it was considered a prank, seen a few of them on TV.
The players union are trying to say, at least suspend them with pay until proven guilty
