Sorry, but there were 4 Canadians on the field on that D-line at times, so with Pruneau at safety, that would be 5 on D; and then with 4 O-linemen, Sinopoli, LaFrance and Lavoie (in some sets) = 7 at times on offence ... = at times they had 12 Canadians playing regularly, combined, on offence & defence. And as a little note - they won the 2 biggest games of the year in doing so. But OMG, there is so little Canadian talent for CFL teams ??? What a crock of $hite.

And sorry again to disappoint all you CFL cliche/fairy tale subscribers who have been taught to have so little respect for Canadian talent in general, and to believe CFL teams are oh so taxed to find 7 only Canadian "starters". Why don't you go start your own "Ratio Problem" CFL site where the usual suspect CFL "fans" could bleat "ratio problem" over & over again, bad-mouth Canadian football talent, and piss & moan for the ratio to be reduced or eliminated. Fact is Ottawa in 2016 never declared more than 9 Canadian starters, who by definition can only be replaced by other Canadians if they leave the game. Lafrance was never declared as such.

They were also able to go to 9 in September because all the cap space they gained from so many early season injuries allowed them to sign Laing. Otherwise it would have been 8.

One point of clarification. I think if you declare and start nine NATs, you can replace two of them with INTs at any time.

I'll try to clarify for you since you don't seem able to grasp the concept: Ottawa - in that 2016 GC run (East play-off & GC) gave lots of playing time to - combined, on offence & defence - 12 Canadian players ... and they won the GC in doing so. And in other words, they did not seem hampered by some sort of "ratio problem" in finding capable & contributing NI players ... as per some typical cliched whining & moaning, from some CFL GOBs and their lemming like "fan" commentators - as featured on some CFL discussion sites.

I could care less, if for CFL purposes, those Canadian players were "declared" as "starters".

...but for the CFL to ban him while his case is before the courts seems like a dangerous decision on the Commissioner's part. If a team were to try to sign him and the CFL refuses to accept that contract would it not open the league up to legal action by Messam? Just curious.

If Jerome Messam is found not guilty (or the charges are simply dropped), I would expect major legal action against the CFL on his part even if no other team wants to sign him.

police make lots of mistakes
i have been to court twice on criminal charges [i wont into each case any more than that except to say violence was NEVER involved]
both times i was found 'not guilty' - but it cost me $ to get a lawyer
police and prosecuting atty did not apologize

Can you not sue in such a case, or has the fascist State once again put itself "above the law"? Did you at least get into the faces of the police and Crown prosecutor after being found not guilty?

It would be a shame if he was found innocent. He claims to be not guilty. Messem's reputation isn't going to help him though.

I knew that TFC fan, a Hydro One employee, would get his job back. In fact, he was fully compensated for his year off. A lot of these decisions are knee jerk/damage control reactions without seriously consulting the rules or law.

Yes you are right, but BOTH were re-hired because they threatened to sue their employer and the employer realized they had not right to fire them. The employers re-acted to the media outrage but then realized that they could get into legal trouble since the offenses were not against them (the employer)
If the beer tosser was a Rogers employer it would have been a different story. With the guy that yelled FHINTC, it was considered a prank, seen a few of them on TV.
The players union are trying to say, at least suspend them with pay until proven guilty
