See Trestman reportedly saying Franklin "may" be in line for more playing time and "We'll take a couple of days to talk it over"

    Really?

I’m a big proponent of Trestman in many ways but as AngeloV previously eluded to if a choice had to be made between elite QB prospect and Trestman I’d choose Franklin at this point.
Argos have a piss poor history in regards to developing and retaining (Collaros and Harris) young promising QB’s so it is essential that they get this one right.

I suspect that he doesn't want to throw Bethel Thompson under the bus (which is a good quality in a coach), but that Franklin will start next week. If Trestman is truly unwilling to bench MBT at this point, then we have a problem.

You have nailed it. And I hope that you are correct. With the playoffs out of reach, there is no other logical option.

I just watched Trestman’s response to the question of who will start next week and his response seemed totally reasonable to me.

As I said before, MBT earned the right to start right up to the last game based on his performance being better than the Franklin. I would have made the change after the 2nd Hamilton loss, and I said as much. MBT has proved to be a serviceable QB, but is likely destined for a back up. I still believe that Trestman will not be back next year, so let's get Franklin plenty of work, and I would keep all the starters in place. The much maligned o-line has truthfully been pretty good this year. Argos rank in the top third in terms of sacks allowed, and I believe the issue with the running game is more based on the fact that their running game is too predictable. All the runs seem to be between the guards, and teams have played to stop JWJ. I think Trestman's play calling for the most part has been very bad this year, almost as if defences know what the Argos are about to run before the run it.

Sure, because he's not gonna throw his starting QB of the past eight weeks under the bus. If he decides to give MBT the next start, he deserves as much criticism as this board can muster. But saying what he reportedly said is simply being respectful to one of his players.

I thought it was hilarious that Zic and Trestman didn't seem to think Thompson was at fault for any of his picks.

Agreed. This week's practice will answer a lot of questions.

I wouldn't blame MBT for the two long INTs, as Carter fell on the first one and he was under too much pressure on the second one. His arm did get hit by Lee on the first INT that Coleman got so you probably can't blame him on that one either. The other one just before halftime might be the one you could assign full blame to MBT for. Having said all of this, the INTs, whether he was to blame or not, plus his inability to move the football with the passing game was enough to get Franklin into the game by halftime.

Interception or no interception - in either case he cannot throw an accurate long ball with minimal consistency at the pro level.

You can probably go back and look at all of Franklin's INT and try to determine the same thing for him. Specifically I just watched one of them from a Winnipeg game where he was accurate on a roll out of the pocket that got picked only because #81 didn't come back to the ball and was easily undercut without any attempt to stop the undercut by the D.

So with JF finally getting a starting assignment, does he also retain short yardage duties? I believe he did both prior to his exile to the bench. Although if Prukop returns from his ailment I would let him run short yardage.

No short yardage team or punter needed with Franklin at QB👍

For the team's and fans' sake, the starting QB should be named now. To delay announcing the decision is not respectful to either player. There is no need to "throw the player under the bus" The announcement could be made with diplomacy and honesty, stating the need for the team to change focus and direction. Both Franklin and MBT are both professionals and would probably welcome the announcement so they and their team mates understand what is occurring.

If Franklin does start, hopefully he is not put on a short leash. The team has to determine what they have in Franklin for next season and he must be given a fair chance to demonstrate his talents

They only start practising again on Tuesday so I am sure that we will know then when everyone will be able to see who gets the first team reps. Trestman doesn't seem to believe in "short leashes" for his QBs so I am not concerned about that. I think Franklin will get most, if not all, of the snaps for the rest of the season.
