With the second loss in a row to Hamilton, the Argos are tied with the Als in points and are ranked behind Montreal since the Als have beaten them in the only game that they have played so far. Looking at the glass half-full under the worst case scenario, will the Argos get the first overall draft pick?

Montreal forfeited their first round pick in 2019, so the odds are pretty high that we'll pick first over all.

I don't think the Argos have a demonstrably worse record than other teams when it comes to drafting. Without looking up every team's record, I'd argue that no team has consistently, over a long period of time, hit on most of their picks. I'd be willing to bet that the number of picks who became starters after Round 3 is probably in the ballpark of the number of first-rounders who became starters. CFL drafting seems to be a much bigger crapshoot than any sport other than baseball (where first-rounders often fail to get out of the minors, and 20th-rounders sometimes become stars).

I said over fifty plus years because I remember the many wretched Argo teams in the 50s, 60s, and 70s with many American stars but poor Canadian talent that were perennial losers, in part due to a lack of depth in Canadian talent.

Out of all the legends you hear, never is their draft selection ever mentioned. I’m guessing no one cared as much about the draft as they do these days.

But to make this more “current”, Paul Masotti was a great Argo. Anyone recall when he was drafted? I just feel that the draft has only become a real interest from fans and media within the last 10 years. Probably more so withis last 5 years.

I understand. I'm just trying to figure out what constitutes "legend" myself. For me it's Pinball, O'Shea and obviously Flutie the last 25 years. Ray 20 years from now. And Durie as well maybe ?

I guess you're trying to say it's guys w/ an aura around them (for lack of a better term). That definitely narrows the list down. That's guys like Krol, Copeland, Dick Shatto, Holloway, Greer, Pinball, Flutie.
