    Duron Carter

One month into the Duron Carter experiment and seriously, why did we bother? 1 target tonight and basically no involvement at all so far. Definite head scratcher

As I stated when the signing was made and Trestman told the world he was going to sit: Don't like the signing, but since he's here might as well use him. Pretty apparent that Trestman doesn't want Carter on his team.

And to think we'd likely have Posey back (whom we know would've been utilized) if they hadn't of signed Carter but to sign him and not use him is a definite head scratcher.

Argos’ Trestman doesn’t believe Duron Carter is ready to be ‘heavily targeted’

I'm still trying to figure out why they signed him... maybe for next season ? lol

Trestman has stated Carter will get more opportunities to contribute ( as a receiver?) this week. Gee, I hope so, he couldn't hardly get fewer than last week.

Difficult to buy the argument that the offense is so complex he needs a month to learn it. As one of the TSN commentators said--it can't be that complicated as it seems all the other CFL coaches have got to figured out.

BC has Posey was playing regularly after 2 weeks but after nearly a month Carter is still not playing full time. Strange.

I suspect that he may not get much of a chance because he doesn't fit Trestman's mould.

And this is the head scratcher of all this, if he doesn’t fit the “Trestman” mould, why is he here? I will admit I’m no fan of Duron Carter and did not want the Argos to sign him, but since that ship has sailed, why not at least try to utilize his talents at this point?

He could be twiddling his thumbs elsewhere. Hope that the end of this ends with Posey re-signing here in the offseason, I don’t see any way that Carter returns and I wouldn’t blame him either for moving on.

Don’t want to be that guy, but can’t help but wonder what the off season will bring. Is there friction between Popp and Trestman over personnel decisions this season?

I've been thinking about that for several weeks now.

Just a thought...perhaps Trestman is overthinking things with "The Process".

This is an awfully small sample size to start thinking there's been a falling out between the two. It's possible, of course, and Trestman's endorsement of Carter has seemed lukewarm at best. But it's also possible that both he and Popp believe Duron needs be re-educated, and that will take time. This might in fact be a move more for next season than this season.

There are still six games left this year and a lot can change over that time. Fans (especially around here lately) seem predisposed to never take the long view of anything. A guy has a bad game (or sometimes just a bad play) and he needs to be benched/traded/cut. A guy fails to distinguish himself in his first few games of Canadian football (e.g. Rodney Smith) and it's "clear" that he's no good. I seem to recall some guys who became productive players, if not stars, after failing to distinguish themselves in their first seasons. Two recent Argos who come to mind are Darvin Adams and Jeremiah Johnson. They turned out OK, eventually. Same goes for Adarius Bowman and Geroy Simon, to name a couple of others. Hey, even Terry Greer did not become a star until his third season.

TBH, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Trestman and the Argos part ways after the season. The new rules which cap coaches in numbers and salary may have more to do with it than anything else. Trestman is very highly paid. Not saying I want it, because I don’t. I really like Trestman even if I disagree with the way he uses some of his personnel. But I also believe when Popp goes out and gets high profile players, he wants to see them play and contribute.

We touched on the 'overthinking' part briefly on the show last night, though it was more in relation to the decision making versus the off-field stuff described in your post.

We better not get the old Popp special and he becomes our HC

I think he was forced into that by Alouette ownership.

Definitely don't want to see that happen here.

If there is a change, I would expect to see Condell as the HC.

I think the Head Coach is only as good as his surrounding coaching staff which I suspect has adversely affected Trestman and the Argos this season.
Just as player changes can effect on field chemistry I believe coaching staff changes can be equally detrimental to a teams goals which is playing out this season.

Trestman in a mixed message is now saying Carter will play more against Calgary.

Argos head coach Marc Trestman believes Carter has earned the chance to take more snaps on game day.
“He’s not there yet but he’ll get more opportunities this week then he did a week ago with our installation. We would expect to see him play more reps,” Trestman said. “We gotta do what’s best for our football team, what’s best for him is what’s best for our football team and we approach it that way. We want to be able to put him in where he can have a positive impact on our football team and not hurt our football team. The measuring stick this week is that he’ll play more this week than he did a week ago.” ...

“Well, he hasn’t had those kind of opportunities because he hasn’t been ready to do that. We took him, we brought him in and we had a two-week period where we weren’t even thinking about playing him,” Trestman said. “Actually, we got him up a game early because we felt that he deserved that opportunity to get in and get involved and be a part of our team on game day.” ...

“We’re not going to rush him, we’re not in a hurry, we gotta do what’s best for the team,” Trestman said. And this week what’s best for the team he’ll get more opportunities, more reps in the game and hopefully he can positively impact like we want all our players to do.”

The bar is pretty low for Duron to “get more opportunities” in Calgary, but that being said, let’s see what he can do.

I too am curious how this new salary cap on football operations will play out next year – I recall reading that the Argos were one of the teams that had in essence “too many coaches” and would have to trim one or two. Trestman’s salary would play into it as well, didn’t think of that angle.
