IMO Trestman does not like going outside the conventional unwritten guidelines in football within which many players succeed. Some players' success, such as Carter's in the past, does not easily fit in that mould. Trestman, for example, prefers pocket passers to scramblers. An example, from another sport is Vladimir Guerrero, who often swung at many pitches way outside the strike zone, yet still was highly successful.

I too am curious how this new salary cap on football operations will play out next year – I recall reading that the Argos were one of the teams that had in essence “too many coaches” and would have to trim one or two. Trestman’s salary would play into it as well, didn’t think of that angle.
They may have to put some of the coaches on the six game once in a while.

But seriously I don't think it will affect the HC and coordinators salaries as it will be more the assistants to an assistant that will be let go or reduced.
I believe this cap is only for coaching. So what's to say the Argos make Trestman an assistant GM and part of his salary moves to that. I'm sure Chris Jones total salary will not all come under the coaching salary cap.

    28 total Football Ops - $2.738 million
11 Coaches - 17 Non Coaching Football Ops; which includes GM, Asst. GM, scouts, trainers, etc.

Duron Carter has recently got absolute discharges, meaning no criminal record, on his two marijuana charges. Considering his play this year, he should also get an absolute discharge from the Argos.

So we're blaming Carter for barely being targeted?

I don't put it all on him, and I really wanted to see him succeed, but in part yes. He doesn't give it 100% on all plays, which really does have an effect on trust. Having said that, I would have no objection to starting with a clean slate with the new coach.

Me too. If new staff/OC sees a way that the team can utilize him effectively, then I’m open to him returning.

As before, (1) I want to see Carter playing for the Argos. He wasn't treated well or even fairly by Trestman. (2) Posey.

Two great receivers beats one great receiver.

Speaking retrospectively of the Argos, in particular, one of the WRs (at least) might as well have been a pylon. That would have been less expensive and just as ineffective.

What everyone has been waiting for since Trestman banned it: Duron is back on Twitter.

Not sure how I feel about Carter. I wouldn’t be opposed to him being in camp. Don’t want to see him returning any kicks, he’s not good at it. With so many free agents though, I would much prefer Duke Williams, Banks, Derrell Walker, Posey, to name a few. I’m surprised Carter hasn’t used him name to land himself a decent contract in the Alliance league.

Agreed, but I would bet that the team would really have to overpay to get any of those other FA's. I have no interest in Banks. I think the majority of his big plays come off of Masoli scrambles which make Banks really dangerous. I really don't think he would be as successful without Masoli. I suspect Williams will try the NFL and Walker might give it another shot as well, or likely stay put in Edmonton. Posey is the guy I would go after.

    Duron Carter

I completely agree we must go after Posey, and if Carter can regain his form we will have two very dangerous deep threats.

If Carter re-signs with the Argos, wins a job in camp and busts his ass on every play, great. But that's three ifs, and I'll be surprised if at least one of them doesn't go off the rails.

I have kind of been on the fence on Carter. Want to see him back, don't want to see him back.

After listening to Will and the boys today I'm back to the bring him back side. Where are they going to find another receiver with Carter's talent. Of course it will be Cory's call and he might just be the guy to get Duron back on track. IMO one of the reasons Marc Trestman got shown the door was his treatment of Duron Carter and it appeared as if Bill Manning didn't like it.

For anyone who wonders what happened to Duron Carter, who last played for the Argos in 2018 before going to BC in 2019, he is now working as director of player personnel at North Palm Beach Prep School in Florida, a premiere destination for student athletes. Hopefully, he will be a better role model in this job than he was in the CFL. He's just turned 30 but he may have burned too many bridges for a comeback.
