    I felt this deserved it's own thread, basically to summarize:

    Jerry Trestman, father of a football coach, died on Labour Day at the age of 88. Personally and professionally, this has been as challenging and emotional a season as coach Trestman has ever had, may ever have. His dad passed away. His mother has had cancer and treatments and now more cancer. His wife, a year removed from stem-cell surgery, is fighting a winnable battle with multiple myeloma, the same disease her older sister is battling.

    An absolutely gut wrenching article. For anyone who has ever lost a parent (s), the first year is the hardest. For Trestman to continue working at a high level of concentration during this...well...I don't know how he would be able to.

    Knowing what I know now about his last several months, I would be open to him returning as HC in 2019.

    I feel the same way, and also feel like a huge a-hole for the way I have expressed my feelings towards the way he coached this season. Good on Simmons for this story.

    A great article. Just confirms that Trestman is truly a class guy with impeccable character. He walks the walk and is a great example for others. I certainly hope he is back next year.... but with a new DC if possible.

    I had hoped he would be back next year anyway. Last year and his track record in Montreal have earned him that. But after reading what he's been going through, I'd say it's a must. He loves his team and they all seem to support him - their work ethic has not wavered despite the losing record. Give him a chance to focus on football, which I think would be a Godsend to a guy like Trestman under these circumstances, and turn things around. Unless he chooses to leave to be closer to his family, of course.

    Whether you like all, some or none of his coaching decisions, Trestman is a stoic man of integrity and sensitivity, who has dealt with catastrophic problems without complaining about how he has been treated by the fans and media at times.

    Trestman has stated his desire to return next season, perhaps football gives him some relief from the family issues he is dealing with.

    I can remember Zicarelli mentioning on at least two or three occasions this year that Trestman was away on a personal day so I am not surprised that he was going through some family issues; however, the extent of them is far more than I had thought. I continue to hope that he is back at the helm again in 2019.
