    Jonathan Rose

He was suspended for "contacting" an official on Sunday and rightfully so!

The 'PA has appealed the decision which means he'll likely get to play on Sunday.

I don't know what the 'PA hopes to accomplish here aside from delaying the inevitable.

Slightly off topic, but how does the CFL fine Dickenson for his comments? If the league does not want those remarks on the air, then keep the Mic away from the sideline personnel. Things like that get said during the heat of battle.

Not because of a cuss word, but because of the implied xenophobia ? He would have got fined if he had been caught calling one of the Bombers a F-ing ho*o, or N-word, I bet; or should that be tolerated too just because the TV mics picked it up in the heat of battle ?

The PA will do whatever to protect one it's employees.

I guess the league could send a tough message and disallow the appeal cause of the nature of the offence (roughing up an official) ? Not sure how that has to play out ?

This would be a huge loss for the RedBlacks - probably their best cover guy missing the biggest game of the year and against a pass reliant offence with several dangerous receivers.

Or they could someone to review the infraction and penalty before the game and rule on whether on there suspension stands. However, I expect the league office to take their time in getting a ruling.

I don't think Rose deserves to be suspended. The ejection was enough.

Fining Dickenson for being a big suck is a joke. League did that strictly for P.R. purposes. Marv Levy was caught on camera chasing the refs and accusing them of being bought at halftime in a Super Bowl. Nothing happened to him.

I think you have to send a message that doing that to a ref is not acceptable, but also have some forgiveness since it's the Grey Cup.

I would say Rose is suspended for a quarter, can only make a share of $5K (winners get $16K, losers $8K), and then he's suspended for the season opener next year.

I’m sure he’ll appeal, play in the Grey Cup and sit out one game next year which makes the whole exercise a waste of time.

That's not how it works. It's not up to the league on its own to dictate how the appeal unfolds. Rules for appeals are almost certainly set out in the collective agreement, agreed to by both parties. If the league tried to do whatever it wants, it would be subject to grievance and would almost certainly lose in arbitration. When you are in a collectively bargained environment, both sides have to conduct themselves in accordance with the rules set out in the CBA.

    Well said, Paul!

And, OV, as I mentioned in another thread, Dickenson said "f***ing Canadian mafia". "Canadian mafia" is what the Bombers brass is referred to by the rest of the league. There was no slight intended towards Canadians in general.

I realize that Ravi - and I don't believe that whiny, spoiled little brat Dickheadson was intending to slur all Canadians or anything like that. Point is - what was heard mostly on TV was "F-ing Canadians", and that could be interpreted as not so nice - and shows lack of respect to a country/business that his employed the little pissant for a couple of decades worth of very good pay days.

My guess is, that if it had been O'Shea whining at the refs and all we heard was "F-ing Americans" when what he really said was "F-ing GOB Americans getting to run the CFL", there would have been some fallout there as well.

You know why O'Shea wouldn't say that? Because unlike you, he doesn't believe it's true.

Maybe so (and you know this how ? - you speak to Mike often?).

Amusing thing here is - the spoiled little clique of Americans who get to run the CFL, and have for decades, are bent out of shape or jealous that a few Canadians get key positions to run a team in the CANADIAN Football League, and want to call them the "Canadian Mafia" and actually believe the league or refs will favor them ??? The ironing there is delicious.

So, assuming he loses the appeal, does he surrender one-18th of his 2018 salary, or his $8,000 game cheque from yesterday, or his first game cheque from 2019? The latter would be ridiculous since he could, in theory, retire or be released and never pay a price for his actions.

That's a great point Paul. The league should withhold his game cheque from the Grey Cup until a clear solution is made. If he wins his appeal, pay him the entire cheque with interest. If he loses, hold back 1/18th of his 2018 salary should he not be in the league next year.
