Argos re-signed Ryan Bomben today. Excellent move. He was very good last season.

Bravo, Jim Popp et al. Bomben is a key piece for sure. Interesting that he signed now -- one or the other side (maybe both) might be fearing the unknown outcomes of bargaining.

The team also signed a 300 lb American DT named Kingsley Opara a couple days ago.
Maybe Chamblin will allow contact in training camp, so the competition is real and not just hypothetical. Pretty hard to evaluate new talent when they can't really show what they can do on a daily basis in camp. Probably the reason Trestman relies so heavily on veteran talent.

I'm glad to see Bomben resigned. He was a major improvement to the OL when he was added during the season.
Although still listed on the Argo roster, DB Duke Thomas was released in November and is trying to resurrect his pro football career with the San Antonio Commanders of the fledgling AAF. That makes the recent signing of DB Devin Butler an even better acquisition.
One of the best potential FAs, Cal o-lineman Shane Bergman, is off the market after re-signing with the Stamps. I had hoped we might be able to upgrade with him at LG.

Bergman was a pretty unhearlded O-line prospect who the Stamps got as a later round draft pick and who evolved into a top CFL O-lineman; lesson to scout well and give smart TC looks to all draft prospects or stick with them for a time.
Also maybe an example of a player who is glad to stick with the team who drafted him - showed him respect and gave him a shot at playing time - rather than jumping at a bit more money or a chance to go "home" - Bergman is from Ontario and played at Western,

Lesson also, maybe, about how difficult it is to project how guys will develop. Even the Stamps, with a strong draft history, thought he was worth only a sixth-round pick, yet he has turned out to be one of the better players in the 2013 draft. Anyone who can accurately predict which draft-year players will turn out to be good pros should be making a hell of a lot of money from some team.
