    A look ahead to 2019 (Part 1) - Offence

    Hey;

    A story on who is coming back and who is a pending free agent. I'll do one on the defence/special teams next week.

    Always good for some lively discussion.

    Enjoy.

    This an eye opener for me as some players I thought might be free agents are not and others like Burks and Gingras who were rookies are and I assumed would have an option year.

    We were also told in a newspaper article that Noel and MBT were free agents. Apparently not. I also thought Holmes signed a two year contract last year, but it must have been in 2016. Time flies. That will be interesting to see if Popp wants Holmes back as he has been centered out at times as under performing. Bomben is a must signing for RG IMO. If Gaydosh can make the transition to OG that would be a pleasant surprise out of the blue. Others have done that successfully including Chris Van Zeyl.

    My understanding of the rule is that if a player is in the first year of a 1 + 1 and goes from game roster to practice roster, the option year is voided, National or International...doesn't matter. That's why other drafted players like Harrington and Kwemo aren't in the same category as Gingras-Gagnon, they weren't placed on the PR after being on game roster.

    Thanks for the info. I had never heard that before.

    Yeah, I was trying to figure out how Gingras-Gagnon is a FA and finally realized that he must have ended up on the PR at year's end. I guess the same goes for Burks.

    Ravi, Burks did not end the season on the PR though. He was paired up with Travon Van as the feature backs against Ottawa in the season finale. I hope he returns, I thought he played hard and has talent.

    With Burks though, he ended up on the PR at some point during the season; once that happens, he needs to sign a new contract to get back on the active roster. I am guessing that the new contract did not contain the option year.

    Serious loophole there for players that don't want an option year. Sign a standard contract. Get released between last pre season and first regular season game. Sign to PR for a day. Then sign a new contract with no option clause.
    It's us vs the rest of the country

    just curious dont think it matters if you are signed as new coaches will release what is here and sign their own players. There will be a few good pieces let go for the other teams to pick up for their needs.

    The Head Coach will have some input no doubt, but I believe Jim Popp signs the players and the Coaches coach them. I don't think Marc Trestman signed Duran Carter. lol
