Argos to select Shane Richards with 1st pick ?

    https://3downnation.com/2019/05/02/a...ds-in-toronto/

I would've been good with Saxelid at #1 as well, and I wouldn't mind (though doubtful) the Argos landing Saxelid, McInnis, or Fontana in the second round.

With the list of good OL players available (Richards, Desjarlais, Wilkinson, Fontana, Gibbon, Saxelid, Williams, Thomassin), perhaps they pick will up another in a later round.

Richards was my least favourite choice of the potential 1st round O Line prospects.

I was unimpressed with Popp's performance in last year's draft. I'll admit that I don't know what I'm talking about most of the time, but in the mock drafts, Marshall Fergusson has him as a mid-3rd-rounder. John Hodge has him even lower; a mid-4th-rounder.

I think a number of people were annoyed that he declined testing at the combine, and are "punishing him" for it in their rankings. Good luck with that, commentators.

I'm hoping the team selects Wilkinson not Richards.

Maybe quite similar resume to another recent CFL 1st overall pick of a couple of years back - Josiah St John (O-Lineman taken by the Riders) - played at a Div I program, but precious little proven starting experience, and not some eye popping testing #s either to be impressed by. St John has done little in the CFL in 2 years so far (though some Rider fans were impressed when he started some late last season. I would never use a top CFL draft pick on anything but a college ball all-star or multi year starter.

CFL thinking will often tend to favor Div I resumes. Argos have been burned there with O-linemen before.

Maybe they could hype the hell out of Toronto guy Richards - WOW! - drafted 1st overall in the CFL draft (Homer Simpson was watching) and he will become a GTA athlete celebrity to help save the Argos !
