My brother and I started watching wrestling in the early 1970’s.
Edouard Carpentier, Johnny Powers, Hartford and Reginald (The Love Brothers), The Beast, The Original Sheik were both cheered and infuriated us (a trend that continued until some assh*le told us wrestling wasn’t real in our late 30’s).
The 1980’s were the best IMO, really loved watching guys like Bobby Heenan, Andre, John Studd, Rick Rude (one of the best), Paul Orndorff and the rest of WWF’s Hall of Fame lineup, truly great performers.

In the 1970's there was a Saturday wrestling that came on TV right after the morning cartoons. The announcer was very big, round, I think his name was George.

    Anyone else recall this?

Former wrestler and manager George "Crybaby" Cannon. That was Superstars of wrestling filmed in the Global TV studios in Don Mills. He and Milt Avruskin (PBP) owned that promotion. They would team with Gino Brito to run International wrestling out of Montreal in the 80's.

Yes, but if memory serves Watts didn't stay around very long.

JCP tried a joint venture with AWA as well.

If you're talking about Pro Wrestling USA, it could have worked. The original premise was sound but the lack of cohesion amongst the promoters and the misstep of not appointing one person majordomo doomed it to failure. Also David Crockett trying to steal other people's talent in the locker room didn't help

I have very fond memories of this. There was this mean German wrestler named Otto von Heller that scared the hell out of me.

'Plan B'. Roop, Malenko, Garvin, Orton, and Ron Wright all admit wrestling is a work

Just wondering how many of you have seen this fascinating video. The videos after "Plan B" shed some light on it.

Titled “Plan B”, this was a result of the Knoxville wrestling war of 1979. Seemingly as a last resort; Bob Roop, Boris Makenko, Ron Wright, Ronnie Garvin, and Bob Orton Jr. attempt to “expose” the wrestling business. Evidently this was never circulated to TV stations as was threatened.

    And then there's this

1974 Mario Galento "business exposing" radio interview

Mario Galento appears on Memphis radio in 1974. He was upset with the promoters and area stars and has a lot to say. Including making challenges, promoting his school, and exposing wrestling secrets.

Not shocked at all. I love the old days of wrestling where the guys told a great story in the ring. Don't care for the spot fests you see today which make absolutely no sense. Just waiting for a guy to kick out at 2 after a 100 foot drop. IT's just so stupid now for the most part.

Did you watch the video, I thought it was an amazing bit of footage for the time. I'm kinda surprised nobody has posted about it.

Oh come on now. You don't buy the story where someone gets taken to the hospital after 2 F-5's on Monday but on Sunday can kick out of 12?
