Sitting James Franklin in the pre season game against Hamilton was smart. Hamilton has very limited film with JF in the new offence. I really expect the defence to swarm this season winning the turnover battles, thus setting up the offence. Look for Derell Walker to have a Monster season along with Green, Edwards, Noel and Wilder JR.

Well we'll soon see whether James Franklin can become the real deal at QB. Probably be a long season otherwise.

I'm not sure what to expect from James Wilder Jr. this year. He was brilliant in the last part of 2017 but delivered little last year.

Derel Walker's presence though will at least mean that the opposition can't simply key on S.J. Green.

    Radically Canadian!

It looks like Simoni Lawrence won't be playing:

Just from what I have seen in camp and the pre-season games, I expect big things from Wilder this year. Last year every one of his runs was exactly the same, from the same formation, taking the ball between the guards. From what I have seen, they seem to be stretching it out more this year, and there also appears to be a threat of Franklin pulling the ball back and getting outside, something that was frowned upon by Trestman. That alone will keep the DE honest having to respect Franklin, and result in Wilder being hit as he's taking the ball a lot less often this year.

Even still, I wouldn't say Wilder delivered little last year. He averaged just under 100 yards from scrimmage per game he dressed in.

My bet is he appeals it so he won't miss the Argos game, and then drop his appeal afterwards. Hopefully if he does appeal, they expedite the ruling.

All key matchups for this weekend's game.
The Riders defense shut down Masoli and Banks and Tasker. They didn't show much of a running game either. The Ticat defense didn't put a lot of pressure on the Riders backup QBs.
I see a big win for the Argos on Saturday.

Ti-Cats ran the ball well with Thomas-Erlington. Probably just not enough. The key was containing Masoli and not letting him run. Of course, that might be the Condell offence that discourages him from running too. TBH, this is really Condell's first true OC gig as his previous two came under control freaks in Austin and Trestman.

I was watching a lot of the actual play calling and scheming on the O and it seemed way too similar what did not work for Masoli in years past.

Agreed. It's just 1 game, but I think June Jones had a lot to do with the success of that O. A lot more than some may want to acknowledge. He's a sharp offensive mind.

If the season ended today, the Argos would be in the playoffs. That's already an improvement on last year and we haven't even played a game yet. So far so good, Mr. Chamblin!

I'll be travelling on Saturday but hope to catch most of the game while waiting for a connection in Calgary. Since Hamilton has had a week to shake off rust and the extensively edited Argos will probably need time in the oven (I'm going for a mixed metaphor trophy) I have low expectations.

Before June Jones came in, Brandon Banks was on the bubble. He was used primarily as a returner and was used sparingly as a receiver. Junes saw the potential of Banks and turned him into the primary receiver and Banks became the 1,000 yard plus receiver.

Jones and his mentor Mouse Davis have always had success with smaller, quicker receivers in their schemes. Need look no further than Ernest Givens in his Houston Oilers days. Smallish receivers were not normal in the NFL at the time outside of that system.

But I shall look further....Scott McGhee with the Argos and then Houston Gamblers of the USFL...Martin Cox....Dave Newman to an extent and of course...Paul Pearson.

Newman had his greatest success with the Argos before Davis arrived. So did Cox ( who was not all that successful except for one amazing -- and amazingly lucky -- play. McGhee was decent but got benched for the Grey Cup when he was healthy. And I never viewed Pearson as a "small" receiver.

McGhee had a couple great years with Mouse as his OC and Jim Kelly as his qb in perhaps the most entertaining team in that league. Pearson at 6ft 180 lbs was average size back in the day...but Paul we all know you see him as larger than life.😁 Oh those were great times to be an Argo fan...

Yes, he was indeed average size, albeit superhuman in other ways. Definitely not tiny like Banks and some of the other little guys who excelled for Mouse in Houston.

Well it looks like Simoni Lawrence is appealing his suspension go figure. Guessing the process will drag out and allow him to play this weekend, then miss the two games vs Mtl. I've lost respect for the PA. Lawrence should accept it and move on. Though he's never been suspended before he has a history of dirty hits. POS in my opinion.
Maybe Collaros should ask the PA to appeal his concussion, 6 game injured which could cost him incentive bonuses, and possible career ending and future earnings. That all adds up to more then $$ than Lawrence will lose for 2 games!
