I didn't see a thread on this. Pretty depressing view.

When it comes to the Argos or the CFL, Cox is a ray of sunshine. Has a knack of writing articles such as this, then poof....he disappears again.
I read the hatchet job too. Best part of the article was the last line. Damien Cox is a former Star sports reporter....
Laziest form of journalism is to continue to post the same story over and over again. A claim it’s news...
“it's not the strongest who survive nor the most intelligent but the ones most adaptable to change.’ Charles Darwin
I do not believe it is a journalist's job to be a cheerleader.
I just view Cox as nonconstructive though.
TORONTO ARGONAUTS FOOTBALL CLUB
GREY CUP CHAMPIONS: 1914, 1921, 1933, 1937, 1938, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1950, 1952, 1983, 1991, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2012, 2017, 2022
Crappy reporter, crappy article, crappy paper.
Unsubscribed a year or two ago. No regrets.
I was going to post that article with a comment but I was so angry I figured I better not because I had a lot to say and a lot of the time people don't like what I have to say.
Does a smear job like this not entice people to action? Not only is/was? he one of the two designated Rogers' CFL hitmen, but it evokes two questions in me I can't understand. One is, what is the mentality now in kicking something when it's down? Does that help? What actual news went into that garbage, was there something new to report? And two, tell me one other country in the world where a reporter would try and kill a domestic product in favour of a foreign one. And no one here can tell me that isn't the case. I worked in news, I think I can smell a rat when I see it.
A situation like this is where I give begrudging props to TFC fans, they just wouldn't take shit like that. They'd be all over him in the comments and on social media and yet CFL fans sit and take it. I am seriously asking, is it because we are older that we're not as cognizant of the power of social media to give this clown holy hell? If you don't fight back in some form this will continue and continue, I'm probably Abe Simpson shaking his fist at a cloud but when bullies figure out they can get away with it, they'll keep doing it and eventually perception becomes reality. And this clown keeps doing it. I can't remember, did he get canned by Rogers, if not that's a funny way to help an MLSE property.
A paraphrase of a Finley Peter Dunne quote from the movie Inherit the Wind was "it is the duty of a newspaper to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable". Well, I'd like to afflict some of the comfortable in that business.
Agreed.
It is depressing but pretty accurate, though I cringe to see anyone write "It is indisputable that fan interest in the team is at its lowest in Argo history" without anything to back it up. It is indisputable that reporters and commentators should provide evidence and justification for their statements.I just view Cox as nonconstructive though.

How ironic. Nobody follows the Argos anymore according to Cox. I was going to say almost nobody reads the Star anymore, but then I remembered it's free in McDonalds, and would probably be going bankrupt with out Government (taxpayers) bailout. The Argos at least sell tickets and receive TV cable money from a good sized following.
I think the Toronto Star is one of the worst newspapers in the country. I have a hard time finding fault with the angle taken in this particular article however. Although it may not purvey the general view on this board, it probably does for the average Torontonian. Decent columnists aren't afraid of some stinging truths.
Hustle hit and never quit
Days, sometimes weeks go by, without any articles about the Argos in the Star's sport section and even then normally buried on the back pages. Interesting that the one article to find itself on the sports section's front page is a hatchet job. Was this by design or just a quirk of fate. I suspect the former but am at a loss to understand the reason.
Much of what Cox says is true but he purposefully evades mention of any positive news. He does not talk about the dismal TFC TV numbers compared to the Argos, He doesn't make mention of the Argo's anti bullying campaign in schools. He doesn't say thing any positive about players like Wilder, Awe, Walker etc. It was as if someone had asked him to write the most negative article possible about the team. Why?
The article goes way beyond being negative. It implies the team is doomed and MLSE will eventually abandon the team. Sure glad I cancelled my subscription a couple of years ago.
don't know why we'd even bother with anything Damien Cox said. His act is beyond old, bash the leafs here, bash the argos there - rinse and repeat the cycle over and over again. yawn.
The argos arent going anywhere. The league needs a team in toronto.
MLSE wont sell them, as there is no buyer.
Unless the league folds, this will be the status quo for a long time.
Cox rightly said the team lacks a qb and a star/marketable player. He also is right that the team is an afterthought in this market. And the league is suffering in montreal and bc.
While i agree Cox almost always takes a negative tone, we cant expect journalists to be cheerleaders.
If anything the article was pointless filler. No new information was offered, no new ideas shared.
But MLSE themselves have no new ideas.
A second Ex game is their grand plan for increasing attendance.
This will not be a popular take. But the league should let MLSE bring in a DP like they do for MLS. Say what you want but the year the Argos signed the Rocket we were the talk of the city. I know it's not a long term solution but we need a band aid for the next couple of years just to get our season ticket numbers back up. MLSE is doing a great job at service for the existing base but where we are struggling is to add onto that base.
It wouldn't surprise me if that is what they will try to do. I know this wont be popular so rip away lol
Difference between a Rocket type signing in ‘91 compared to now is that while Rocket was making eithe 4 or 6 million per on his contract depending on who you believe, that type of signing would cost about 25M today based on what high end players now make in the NFL. Not going to happen IMO.
It's us vs the rest of the country
