Is this coaching staff in over its head?

Needless to say, this season has not gone as planned to-date. This magnifies some of the coaching decisions that have been made that make absolutely no sense. The fact that we as fans are identifying decisions that make no logical sense is quite troubling. My question is - is this just the icing on the cake for a team with personnel that just isn't up to par? Or should the focus be solely on the offensive side of the ball, including coaching? I'm in agreement with many others - after the Hamilton debacle, I've liked what our defence has brought to the table but they are getting tired out there.

Chapdelaine is most certainly in over his head though he has been saddled with a poor OL by GM Popp.

Basic fundamental in game decisions have also been a huge problem from Chamblin. At least 3 times he has elected to punt on 3rd and a half yard. Last night after the first Edmonton TD, Argos only returned the kickoff to their 33. Esks were offside. Beyond me how you decline the penalty and don’t make them re-kick. Opportunity lost to take advantage of a tired coverage team. I would understand if the return took it to the 50 or beyond, but the 33? Brutal decision.

Can we include personnel decisions from the GM/HC as well? 1st place Hamilton has 3 of our preseason cuts contributing (CVZ, Coombs and Likely), cutting 2 kickers and then bringing both back, and I will also include our 1st overall draft pick, who could be the next Josiah St John....while other teams high draft picks are actually on the field and not hidden on IR.

While I am at it, the staff is under utilizing the speed of Rainey on offence.

Yes, don’t you love seeing all these players who couldn’t cut it in Toronto excelling in Hamilton?
That’s what happens when they join a team with a defined plan, a well constructed roster that is coached by a very good staff in other words the complete opposite of what the Argos have shown this season😡

And we had St. John in camp. Typically, he spent more time on the training table than the field.

Van Zeyl plays with an attitude, something our o-line needs. Likely's lack of height is a liability on defence, but he has great makeup speed and return ability. Playmakers like him aren't easy to find.

With our horrible run blocking and spotty pass blocking, we need to get the ball quickly out in space to guys like Rainey, Walker, and Worthy, and let them use their speed and running ability. I know Chapdelaine wants to use the running game to set up shots downfield, but it's just not happening.

Though not all will agree, IMO, Frank Z makes a very cogent argument that Manning must be replaced. I'm not sure I would have gone as far as stating the franchise is "doomed" now and in future years unless Manning is replaced. However, until a highly visible, engaged and knowledgeable football individual assumes the role of team president, the franchise is unlikely to be as successful as it can and should be.
