It has been mentioned on the Fancast that Kanneh still has the mental tools, but it is possible that he no longer has the speed.

I think it's already clear that Franklin is not the next Bo. BLM was impressive from the first time he took snaps in Calgary, has never looked bad and has seldom looked ordinary. Franklin had two very impressive games for Edm against bad Argo defences, but has looked both bad and ordinary since coming to Toronto. He might develop into a good starting QB but I doubt he is destined for the Hall of Fame, whereas Mitchell clearly is.

That's more than can be said about virtually every Argonaut other than Laing, Walker, Rainey and maybe Green. I don't understand why it's the QB who wins or loses games. MBT might have been the QB of record in more wins by now had a few more of his teammates played as well as he did. He isn't missing blocks, dropping passes or allowing opposing receivers to get open all day. IMO he has played more than well enough to be part of a winning team in at least three games the Argos have instead lost this season because of breakdowns and failings elsewhere in the lineup.

Surprised he's been in the league as long as he has. There was a play in yesterday's game where he literally watched his man run away from him, preferring not to directly try and tackle him.

A bad reflection of Argos' depth.

I didn't watch the game, but Herdman's stat line jumps out on D. I assume that he was playing in the middle, so a high tackle count is no surprise, but 2 x QS and a FF looks good. Since no one is talking about him I'm guessing the stats were flattering - is that right?

The Quarterback is FAR more responsible for winning games than any other player, he handles the ball EVERY play he is on the field, AND decides what/where/who to move the ball to.

That said your pretty much bang on with your other comments. This team has been hard to watch this season.

Sadly they’ve been hard to watch since their Grey Cup win.

Handles the ball more than anyone, yes. Decides what to do with it? Most plays are called by coaches but yes, QB has some decision-making authority on passing plays (primary read, secondary read, etc.). But his ability to make decisions is almost entirely contingent on how much time he has to throw and how well his blocking holds up. The greatest QB in history would have a "losing record" if blocking breaks down continually. And when he does throw it, his receivers have to catch it. Last week our receivers dropped at least four passes that were right in their hands. One of those gets caught, Argos win and MBT gets credited (by those who believe in QB won-loss records) with a win despite doing absolutely nothing differently than he actually did.

Herdman-Reed was very strong in the first half -- probably his best half as an Argo -- but like everyone else on defence was mostly indistinguishable in the second half.

The Argo's will never make the playoffs with MBT as the fulltime starter, not his year, not ever. No team in the CFL will ever win a Grey Cup with MBT as the fulltime starter.

When Zac is healthy start him until he breaks again, dress O'Connor as backup. Build for next year

He could have had a pic 6 late in the 4th...but yes, like most of his team mates, he was excellent in the first 30 minutes.

TBH I was shocked he made the team this year which probably speaks to the overall talent in the secondary.

I'd like in on this as well. I'm also willing to bet 5 of Paul's upcoming books that the Argos never make the playoffs so long as Bethel-Thompson is the starter. Bethel-Thompson is not a starter, heck even in College he wasn't the starter, and he's never won anywhere. To put it mildly, I wouldn't mind seeing Bethel-Thompson and Franklin given the boot - just go with Prukop, Collaros, and O'Connor the rest of the way. I haven't completely given up on Franklin, but if given the choice, I'd go with Prukop and O'Connor over him.
