Lost Opportunity to Honour Andrea Andreescu

Too bad the CFL Alouettes rolled out Toronto based U.S. Open Champion. Is MLSE waiting for a Leafs game to recognize her? 臘*♂️臘*♂️

Yes, I found it curious the Alouettes beat her hometown team to the punch in honouring her achievement.

CFL Instagram page of Andrea at Molson Percival Stadium looks like a good crowd. Good, latent CFL fan base in Montreal. We attended the 2012 Eastern Finals at Olympic Stadium with over 50,000 loud fans.

    I did as well.

Andreescu was also at the Impact game on Friday.

    Has Toronto FC honored her?

I bet MLSE will do something for the first Leafs regular-season Saturday home game, which happens to be against Montreal, in front of a national audience that will dwarf what the CFL gets. If you were MLSE, would you trot her out for an Argo game with fewer than 10k tickets sold, or a Leafs-Habs HNIC game?

Believe she spent most of her training and development days in MTL hence the invite. I will be rooting for the Als for rest of season. Their games are incredible vs. indigestible to watch!

To be fair, it had been an eternity since the last home game, and we have no way of knowing if her personal schedule didn't have her in Montreal for the weekend to begin with.

Didn’t she win the Rogers Cup and beat Serena Williams on August 11th. The Argos played 5 days later. Somebody at MLSE is either asleep at the switch, or is being honoured at an Argos game no longer an honour? It was good enough for the Als and Bianca was thankful to the Als for the offer.

I think the Leafs have priority. Starting to see the downside of being “rescued” by MLSE. I am looking for the upside, not counting the part time president.

Has anyone considered that she might have other things to do, in other cities, than be honoured at a sporting event in Toronto? The tennis season is not over and I know she still has at least one more tournament on her schedule.

Andrea? It'd be pretty embarrassing to honor her while getting her name wrong.

But that would totally spoil the theme on here of the Argos are stupid.

Perhaps Andrea Andreescu is a distant relative to the tennis star kind of like we are a distant relative in the MLSE family. Honouring Andrea would then be most appropriate.

Another missed opportunity by MLSE. Good on the Allouetes, lots of free publicity especially online with the younger demographic.

Do you know for a fact that Andreescu was anywhere near Toronto on the day of the Argos' last home game? I believe she normally trains in Montreal, when she is not away competing in tournaments. Unless it can be determined that she was available and willing to be feted at an Argo game, this is nothing more than a shot at MLSE that is not supported by evidence.

And sure enough, it turns out she was training in Montreal for a week that ended last Sunday, and hence unavailable to be at the Argo game last Friday.

Come on Paul. You should know the routine by now. Argos/MLSE = BAD.

Kudos to Montreal for landing this important recognition. No doubt that many mitigating factors could have prevented her recognition here.

I’m trying to think of a BMO Field recognition opportunity taken by MLSE? If I’m missing something you are more than welcome to pipe up.

What I found interesting was her tweet out to the CFL and the Als, “thank you for inviting me!” And I wondered....

Also, I’m just heading back from Montreal myself right now and you know it isn’t inconceivable that one makes their way to Toronto for an event.... especially if MLSE was asking, not the Argos.

I am pretty confident Andreescu is more focused on continuing her amazing season than jetting down to Toronto for a ceremony that would last a few minutes. You don't get to where she has got this year by cutting corners in training.

I thought that they would have invited her after she beat Williams to win the Rogers Cup in August.

I'm sure getting ready for the US open was her top priority at that point, and if it's true she trains mostly in Montreal, no way she alters her training schedule prior to the last major of the year to be honoured at a football game.
