GDT: Argonauts @ BC Lions Saturday October 5

I know it is early but since this game is being played virtually in my backyard I thought it would be appropriate for me to be the one to launch this week’s game thread. For those of you that will be watching the game on television keep a keen eye for me in the crowd. I’ll be the guy wearing blue which begs the question of whether anyone else from the board will be there or will I be the only one to face our weekly humiliation in person?

At least I don't have to suffer in person this week.

Me, my wife, my sister and my 3 nephews will be there in double blue, not sure what seats, as my sis grabbed the tickets. As terrible as the Argo's have been this season I very much look forward to going to seeing them live.

Perfect timing for the GDT....helps us fans forget Saturday nights beat down. Hope MBT returns to the starters role simply because he gives the team the best chance to win. I think they can beat the overconfident Lions.

We went 3-0 against the overconfident Lions in 1983.

I'm probably in the minority, but I'm hoping it's Collaros. We have to see if he is worthy of signing for next year. Franklin's ship has sailed, and after being benched over a bad 2 1/2 quarters of football, I doubt Chamblin would admit to being wrong (which he was) and start MBT again.

I agree with you that it should not be Franklin, as much as I have been pulling for him up to now. I don't agree that it should be Collaros at this stage. What is the point of putting him under centre behind what is in likelihood the worst O-line in the league??
I think most people know what he is capable of if he is healthy, so why risk further injury. My feeling is that you have to go back to MBT, simply because there is no other option, not to mention he did have good stats for the most part in his last 5 games. If the game is out of reach, then maybe Prukop gets the ball to see what he can do. The problem is, who are the guys on this team playing for at this point, other than for themselves and each other? It's unknown if either the GM or HC will be back... one or both likely may be gone. So other than creating film, what is the point. I mean, they are professionals and the object of the game is to win, so right now you have to go with who gives you the best chance to do that.

Don't get me wrong, MBT would be my first choice. Never should have been benched in the first place. I just don't think Chamblin will admit to his error, stubborn as he is.

As for Collaros and the worst O-line, I think Collaros would make the O-line look a lot better, because he will get rid of the ball on time.

MBT deserved to be removed in the Calgary game because he was not playing well, and the offence wasn't moving the ball. No different than a hockey team pulling their number 1 goalie if he is having an off night. But I do agree with you that he should have been given the ball back to start the game against Saskatchewan because he earned that privilege based on his earlier play. Chamblin's error in this regard, in addition to the other gaffes he has committed, speak more to his future.

You are right, Collaros might make the O-line look better.... until he gets dropped, and personally at this stage of a horrible season, it is simply not worth it to me. But I see your point, and I am sure Collaros wants to be in there as he has something to prove as well... that he still has it and can be a star in this league.

Should have been more clear. I meant he should not have had his starting job taken away. An in game switch because of a struggling O, I never have a problem with. But he should have started again this past week. Terrible coaching decision to bench a guy that has been good in 5 straight games because he had a rough 2 1/2 quarters.

Maybe it was playing Franklin at the request of a buyer (Winnipeg, Edmonton)? If it was I think the return price went down.

I highly doubt either Winnipeg or Edmonton are making roster decisions for the Argos. I think Chamblin based it on Franklin playing a decent 2nd half against Calgary.
