Concerned that this means there will be no moves at the trade deadline

There's talks of Pinball taking over in president capacity as well.

CFL trade deadline is pretty non eventful anyway. I expect Assistant GM John Murphy will assume Popps role on an interim basis.

I don't think anyone should be surprised -- he was 15-35 in his tenure as Argos GM, and his recruiting over the past several seasons has been suspect.

I sure hope that MLSE assigns a full time CEO to the Argos (Michael Clemons) to takeover for Bill Manning, to begin the process of resurrecting this team and making it relevant again in Toronto. Off field has been an unmitigated disaster, and outside of the 2017 Grey Cup win, on field has been as well. If there has been a 10 year plan (I don't really believe so) it should be discussed as a case study in what not to do in business schools.

4 years have been wasted since moving to BMO Field.
    GO ARGOS!!!

Popp should have been canned last year.
Pinball has been the face of the Argos for a long time, he is a logical choice.
After the season either O'Shea or Lapolice should be hired as HC.
Then watch the free agents come to this team including new QB Masoli.

    Popp was quite simply, un-renewable.

Too bad, I had high hopes. Like Jim Barker before him, I wish him well and thank him for some great memories, but other than that meteoric blip, he has frankly been a disaster.

Now lets quit wasting time and get this ship bailed out and trimmed up, before we blow it completely.

    Mike Clemons, c'mon down.

His drop in recruiting talent seems to have coincided with the departure of Desjardins from the Als.

I'm struggling to think of good movies Popp made in Toronto. Bringing in SJ Green and Ryan Bomben from Montreal, sure... anything else?

Picking up Cassius Vaughan, signing Marcus Ball, Victor Butler and Mitchell White from the NFL. Nice defense that year.

Oh and he recruited players like Justin Tuggle, Dylan Wynn, Cariel Brooks, Dionte Spencer and Bralon Addison. If the coach cut some of them, guess he can't always be blamed there, although a couple left in FA.

I also thought that the Armanti Edwards and Collaros trades were nicely done.

Can't think of one. Only possibility that comes to mind would be Good Cop - Bon Cop 2 ... but I could be wrong.

    LOL - nice. And oops.

Thanks for the lists, guys. Overall I guess he gets a... C+? Mediocre on recruitment, retention, and drafting?

I thought Barker brought in Spencer....didn't Spencer Zimmerman make the Edwards trade for Diakowski just before Jim arrived ? Either way, that is a nice list of good moves Popp made.

Unfortunately the vast majority of Popp’s effective moves came in 2017 followed by disastrous 2018 and 2019 seasons.

I think Jim brought him and and Popp brought him back for TC number 2? I could be wrong, on all counts. Was just going stream of consciousness and riffing
