Who else can eat the financial losses inherent in owning the Argos? Who else can provide a stadium?

Nobody in their right mind would buy the Argos and invest the money and time necessary to rebuild the brand except MLSE so I’m perfectly ok with their ownership.
The alternative would have been the franchise folding.

So, the Argos would not be allowed to use the stadium and would have nowhere to play if not for the current ownership É

Would be a lot harder sell. MLSE has built locker rooms and installed a hybrid playing surface in order to ensure the continued existence of the Argos. They did a lot more than Rogers.

C&S were fans of the team -- didn't have enough money, or maybe any money. Braley was a stable owner -- wanted out as soon as he could find a buyer, and didn't want to spend beyond the bare minimum. MLSE isn't perfect, but I don't see anyone else willing to properly fund the Argos and cover any losses long-term.

I'm still wondering why Rogers came aboard after Tannenbaum and Bell bought the team. Maybe they hoped Bell would buy some NHL games to help Rogers with that ridiculous TV deal.

I don't think the stadium is an issue at all but the day and time they play is very important in this city. We know what it's like. Next year 1 Thursday during exhibition and 1 Friday. We did our part. A few Sunday's up until mid Sept and the rest Saturdays, Nothing like a Sat evening game in the summer. Attendance if the team doesn't tank will surely increase

I think we all prefer night games in the Summer and afternoon games in the Fall. Friday Night Football isn't going away, but maybe the league should have some overlap between games for these Fall Saturday triple-headers by starting games at 1:00, 2:30, and 4:00. It's an attraction in NFL games to have studio updates from other games. We don't get that in the CFL.

That would be my vote. Evening games until Labour day, and then afternoon games from there on.

I like the overlap idea and I don't think the league or TSN would mind it. Game out of reach then switch to the other. Better than finding something else.

The Argos should send down someone to look at the Dayton Dragons Single A baseball organization. I just heard they’ve sold out 1348 consecutive games at Fifth Third Field which has a capacity of 9,750 seats.

Something very special going on there. Certainly worth a look.

    Wikipedia notes the following achievements.

The Dragons have led the Midwest League and all of Single A baseball in total season attendance in each of their 18 seasons.

In 2000, Dragons President Robert Murphy received the Midwest League Executive of the Year Award. He received the award again in 2012.

In 2004, the Dragons were selected as the winner of the Bob Freitas Award by Baseball America (top Class-A franchise).

In 2007, the Dragons were selected as one of the "10 Hottest Tickets in Sports" by Sports Illustrated.
On July 9, 2011, the Dragons set a new record for most consecutive sold out games (815 total) in all of professional sports.[14] As of the end of the 2018 season, the still-in-progress record stands at 1,316 straight games.

In 2011, Ballpark Digest named the Dragons the "Minor League Baseball Organization of the Year." This honor came during a year in which they set the all-time professional sports sellout streak of 815 (they finished the season at 843 consecutive sellouts); finished 1st in the Midwest League Eastern Division and had the overall best Midwest League record (.593); set franchise records for wins (83–57), wins in a half (48–22 during the second half, which was also the best record among the 80 teams in the seven full-season Minor League Baseball leagues that split their seasons), road wins (38), and wins in a month (22 in August); set franchise records for team ERA (3.39) and shutout wins (14); set a Midwest League pitching record for strikeouts (1,292); and set a franchise record for stolen bases (224, including 103 by shortstop Billy Hamilton, which was the 9th highest total ever for a Minor Leaguer).

In 2012, the Dragons were a finalist team for the Sports Business Journal "Professional Sports Team of the Year."

In 2012, the Dragons franchise was selected as the winner of the John H. Johnson President's Trophy. The winning team, chosen from all minor league teams (Single A, Double A, and Triple A), is chosen by the president of Minor League Baseball and given to "the complete baseball franchise -- based on franchise stability, contributions to league stability, contributions to baseball in the community, and promotion of the baseball industry." Only two other Midwest Leagues teams have received this award.

In 2016, Forbes listed the Dragons as the third-most valuable Minor League Baseball team with a value of $45 million, making them the most valuable Class A minor league franchise.

In 2016, Dragons Vice President of Sponsor Services Brandy Guinaugh was named the Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year for all of Minor League Baseball

In 2016, 2017, and 2018, the Dragons have been the Midwest League nominee for Minor League Baseball's Charles K. Murphy Patriot Award for outstanding support of U.S. Armed Forces and Veterans.

In 2018, the Dragons were selected by Dayton Business Journal as the Miami Valley's Customer Service Business of the Year.

In 2018, Robert Murphy, Dragons President & General Manager, was selected by Baseball America as the Minor League Baseball Executive of the Year.

The Dragons have hosted the Midwest League All-Star Game two times, in 2001 and 2013

There might be some lessons to be learned from the Dayton Dragons, but I'd be willing to bet that their environment is very different from the Argos'. No other, bigger sports and teams competing in the marketplace, no high-end theatre, no massive traffic woes, etc.

No doubt. But a failed franchise moved there and became a success. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

By the way, they are in the Greater Cincinnati Area and compete against those pro teams. Ohio State close by is certainly is another formidable draw.

I think the entertainment aspect of the CFL game has to emphasized. The Dragons aren’t MLB, but that doesn’t seem to matter to 10,000 fans for 50 games a year. It would certainly worth a look.

It’s something I might just check out myself.

Perhaps the St. Paul Saints may be a better template for the Argos.

    https://grandstandcentral.com/2019/s...ints-solution/

Sold out (oversold) 45 out of 50 games last season and that's with an MLB team in the same market along with NFL, NBA, NHL and MLS teams for local media to focus on.
