I think the CFL tried to place a game in Mexico in 2019.

Do they play rugby in Mexico? I don’t know how the CFL will pull it off, but I think they’re trying to hold a game there.

I honestly can't believe the CFL would attempt a game in Mexico or Europe without a much longer lead time than seven months. The risk of a massive failure in a market with virtually no knowledge of Cdn football is way too high. I'll be shocked if this is not another Moncton game.

Apparently they have a rugby stadium in Guadalajara - called Tlaquepaque Stadium.

Why would you consider the estimate as seven months? Perhaps before they signed an agreement with LGA Mexico, as part of the business plan that was agreed upon was that a CFL game would be played in 18 months later, or in July 2020?

In that case Ambrosie has to really activate CFL 2.0. I think it would be a bigger success than playing in a 2/3 full stadium in Moncton.

I think you have to take a risk and have a game in Mexico first so we can gauge the potential going forward with randy's 2.0 version.
If can get a local sponsorship to market it as American style football, but played faster and with the extra now 2 Global players plus practice roster it can succeed.

If they announced it tomorrow, they would have seven months to market this and sell tickets. IMO that's not nearly long enough. Regardless of what has happened behind the scenes, until it is announced, there is zero market knowledge of any game. And if they agreed to this a year ago, why keep it secret?

I don’t ever recall ever a long CFL marketing campaign? The 2021 Regina Grey Cup campaign will start to roll out later. Maybe seven months before the game?

Who’s to say the LGA Mexico haven’t been marketing the game to businesses and local players since the 2019 Grey Cup Game?

I would wonder if another Argos game in Moncton might be perceived by Argos fans as tantamount to admitting we can’t draw fans to BMO Field in Toronto in July. At least an International Bowl would be considered leveraging the familiarity of the City of Toronto to people in Mexico.

Except, every fan in the country already knows the reason is that we currently can't draw at BMO. There is no need to sugarcoat it. Just have to try and change this over a period of time.

I think the reason they chose Saskatchewan as our opponent is because of their huge fan base across the country, meaning they will get a much better sell for TD Atlantic this year. Oh well, another road game.
It's us vs the rest of the country

I checked back and found the November 2018 Letter of intent between the CFL, and the LFA Mexico had listed projects the leagues are jointly planning, including:
    • A CFL scouting combine in Mexico City this winter for LFA players.
    • Increased co-operation and sharing of resources.
    • The possible playing of CFL games in Mexico in the future.

Touchdown Atlantic 2019 actually sold out, but the Stadium capacity is only about 10K.

that's what it's all about I suspect, especially if Mexican Nationals are on the team.

The preseason game for the kids - need to do something special for them, dropping in military personnel by plane, jet flypast, small flag football game by a local kids teams at half time. A few pointers about the game by some of the teams players. Kick to win. Everything highlighting football.

Winning tickets, footballs, flag football kits for their schools etc. everything to reinforce playing this game.

I stand by my prediction that there will not be a game in Mexico in 2020. The CFL has been known to do some dumb things, but trying to get a foreign market interested in a league that no one down there cares about with just seven months' lead time would be one of the dumbest.

As for why not announce TD Atlantic if that's what it is, good question but my guess is that (in typical CFL fashion) the details aren't worked out yet. The 2019 game wasn't announced until March.
