    Wishful thinking....
The loss of Lokombo means Ackie should be a priority IMO - starting Wil OLB; Judge is good but Ackie as good or better IMO, plus Judge has been looking NFL plus might want bigger coin; Muamba not coming unless Bear Woods is suddenly out of the plan ?

Never thought Adjei was a lock to make this receiver corps - with Brescacin + Noel, Gittens and Brissett = all have more overall receiver talent IMO; Ottawa has big need at receiver - they might look at Adjei ?

I would be all in on signing Judge. He has developed into very good linebacker. He wouldn't have made the Riders at first if he had been an import, but has got better every year. He can do it all now IMO. Stuff the run, rush the QB and drop back in coverage.

Wouldn't a DI who can play and back-up at both DB and receiver, plus return kicks, be very valuable ?

Yep I think that would be his best option. And as OV says he can play defensive back as well.

Absolutely. I was just saying I don't think he will be "officially" on the starting O, but I do see him getting reps on O as well. He's played only O in the CFL, so I don't see him lining up on D, unless it was an emergency situation.

Chances are he's going to want a chance to start, so I'm presuming he will be designated at one position or the other, and take most if not all of his camp reps at that position. The fact he could back up elsewhere in a pinch is a potential bonus, although I'm guessing it would be easier to sub in at WR than it would at DB. He could just run wide-side clearing routes and wouldn't really have to know the offence in depth. I don't think a guy can slide into a DB role without having a pretty sophisticated understanding of the highly variable responsibilities guys in the secondary have these days.

The Drake Nevis signing was the big news out of that press release. Very good move imo.

He makes everyone else on the line a little bit better. Argo fans will not be unhappy with his play.

Law is still out there... but I would say that even signing 2 of the 3 ex-Calgary players justifies the recent trade. Is Cordarro Law be a better get than Charleston Hughes? I'm expecting former NFLer Eli Herold to be a big factor in the Argonauts pass rushing schemes this year too.

Apparently Hughes has an offer from an Eastern team (rumoured to be the Argos) for $15,000 more than the Riders are offering. Tough choice to make as he wants to stay in Regina. Cordarro Law is no slouch either if he can be signed.

I’m all for trying to emulate the “Calgary Model”, but do Murphy and Dinwiddie honestly think signing former Stampeders stars is what that entails ?

I’m pretty sure Calgary’s strength is Hufnagel rarely goes the Free Agency route, and somehow finds young replacements for the stars he loses.

Admittedly, being an NFL draftee does not always mean the player is successful in our league but it does indicated that the brain trust of NFL scouting thought the player had genuine talent. There have been some NFL drafted players who have been absolute busts up here but knowledgeable football people believed the player had real potential coming out of college.

In that light, it is intriguing to note that on the present Argo roster there are 16 players who were drafted by the NFL. I'll be interested to see how they make out.

    M. Bryant is a proven NFL receiver talent.

2 RBs with NFL playing time - good prove very good for the Argos

DE prospect Harold with some serious NFL playing time for the 49ers

Love to see a bunch of these guys pan out for the Argos.

Not some guaranteed recipe for CFL success though - need to build a solid TEAM.

Much appreciated, OV. None of us regard "NFL experience" or draft status as a guarantee of anything in our league, and it's nice to see that we're all on the same page!

Not crazy about signing Hughes at 37-38. He may be well motivated because of his release from Saskatchewan, but physically you just never know.

Fortunately (and somewhat sadly) it is football. If the Roughies are correct and Hughes is no longer worth the money... you have the option to cut him. On the other hand, if he has another season or two of reliable pass rushing in him... that could be a big win for the Argonauts. A strong pass rush is so critical in this league.

As a long-time Argo fan you are surely well aware of the Argo tradition & penchant to sign ex-NFLers and all-American heroes as saviours. I've always sort of bought into some of that hype ;o)

I'd much rather see more balance, with respect for and giving a chance to Canadian talent - via the draft and FA signings (and not just 7 only need apply thinking); i thought they might be headed more that way with the former signings of Lokombo, Ackie, Colquhon, Brescacin, Blake, and others. We shall see.
