See one of the bigger name signings has been released. Vince Mayle was drafted in the 4th round and played several years but never really excelled as a receiver in the NFL. A number of others will probably released before training camp.

Ealy might be a good signing. Had a good run in the NFL and is still only 29. At 275 lbs I wonder if they will play him as an interior lineman?

Argos are trying to sign Henoc Muamba, once again focusing on him, like many other signees, being from the Toronto area according to 3downnation.

The Toronto Argonauts are making a pitch to sign free agent Canadian linebacker Henoc Muamba, per league sources.

Muamba first began playing football at the age of 16 at Father Michael Goetz Secondary School in Mississauga, which means it could be a homecoming for the talented defender. ...

Muamba was scheduled to earn $223,000 during the 2020 season, but it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Argos have focused on bringing in local talent since Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons took over as general manager, and getting Muamba’s signature on a contract could continue the trend for Toronto.

I'm starting to understand why people think the Argos will exceed the salary cap.

Until the team actually starts paying the players, they have not exceeded the cap. Between now and then, a number of the higher priced players could be released ( like Willis?). As far as the high profile NFL vets are concerned, they may well have signed a low priced contract with bonuses to click in, only when and if, they reach certain targets---like Eastern All Star or CFL All Star.

Cept that Ackie & Adjei were not re-signed - so what happened to that theory there ?

Muamba gets signed and then Bear gets sent to the Woods ?

Does 3 Down have a dedicated Argo reporter ? - well allow me ;o) - Murphy (not Pinball) has focused on signing lots of American name players - CFL name veterans and ex-NFLers - for the Argos, while adding a couple of Canadians from the Toronto area.

I disagree. Players are signing for a lot less than previous years.

Generally when these smoke rumours come out there's fire.

I can't argue with that take. The 3down writer seems to be thinking of FA2020, when the Argos really did focus on local guys. FA2021 is... as you described.

Josh Gordon, who is the Argos negotiation list, has been released by Seattle. He gained 4,252 yards receiving including leading the league with 1,600+ yards in 2013, but comes with big questions as he has been suspended five times for substance abuse and missed the 2020 season. Considering the Argos penchant this year for ex-NFLers, I wonder if the team will pursue him.

Hard to believe Duron Carter to be the villain he must be when Josh Gordon is viewed as a better option.

According to Dinwiddie, "flashy former NFL's don't mean much to him." He states they will "need to prove themselves on merit and these guys gotta compete to take someone's job." He also states "it's not going to be easy for those guys to make our roster." Sounds like he setting up quite a challenge to the NFL vets and they will have to win a place on the team outright in competition.

It's interesting that where big name NFL vets have been signed, the team has also signed highly successful CFL vets. For example:
.RB's---NFL vets-Dixon, Sankey Williams will have to win out against' CFL vet White
.WR's---NFL vets Bryant, Wright will have CFL vets Rogers and Daniels as competition
.DE's----NFL vets Harold, Ray are up against CFL vets Hughes, Law and Willis
.DT's ----Ealy, Thornton have CFL vet Nevis and perhaps Thomas as competition.

When one adds to the equation, young and hungry newcomers, like Hendrix, the path for the NFL vets will be difficult, unless they come in shape both physically and mentally.

It will be intriguing to see how many of the big name NFL vets do end up making the team and how many will fall by the wayside. Can't wait for training camp!

Sounds like standard "coach talk" to me. Very few of the 2019 Argo starters are still around as incumbents, so camp should be a free-for-all. Which is great!

After watching Gordon catch a Hail Mary Winning TD last night, I'm almost certain that Murphy and Clemons would take a run at bringing Gordon in. The Fan Controlled League finishes at the end of March and Gordon has no further football committments to date.

The only question remains as to whether the CFL has to honour the NFL suspension. In Gordon's case I think not as he is a Free Agent and does not have a contract with the Seahawks.

If Gordon does come in and make the roster have Martivus Bryant and Josh Gordon aided by Daniels and Rogers would make the receiving corps real dangerous.

Awesome addition and nice to see. Theoretically no weak spots.

    Maybe O'Donnell next.

Yep - QB, plus very inexperienced HC are big question marks IMO; rest of the roster looking potentially very strong - on paper anyways (though I'm not sold on overall O-line talent)
