Glen Young out, Chris Jones in

    https://3downnation.com/2021/09/13/c...oaching-staff/

If 3DN is accurate about this (and I assume it is) this is a massive mid-season change. The D has been playing well, so I wonder if there was a clash between Young and Dinwiddie.

It might be for personal or health reasons as well.

The defense had been playing well, I'm a little weary about a mid-season change.

Wow - not a fan of ego-Jones at all (and don't care if he has put together some good CFL defences before) - typical CFL GOB recycling; watch for young Canadian talent on D like Robbie Smith, Achemampong, Colquhon, Hagerty to spend most of the their time on the bench now.

Yep I would like to know what's up with Young. The defence has been playing very well.
As for Jones, I don't care for him. He has no commitment to the team. He bails on contracts when it suits him and only him. Seriously talks about how happy he was to coach HS. Then bails, nice lesson for those kids!

The man has shown zero loyalty. Unless there is a really valid reason for Young's removal, I think this is a bad move. The defense has been playing well and appeared to be getting better as the season progressed.
Hope we get the full story at some time.

Dave Naylor reports that both Glen Young and Josh Bell are on leave because MLSE requires all employees (not covered by a CBA) to be vaccinated.

If that is the case I would expect other teams to be put in a similar predicament.

Say what you want about Chris Jones.

He gets the job done when it comes to Toronto ( past experience getting to a Grey Cup win) and a proven winner in Montreal and Edmonton. Is he a mercenary coach ? Sure is. Winning is Winning

As for Canadians riding the pine. It's professional football not peewee. Their job is to provide and build a consistent winner in this City. Not flash in the pan 9-9 teams that win the Grey Cup. If Canadians help...great. Ricky Foley did the job back in 2012 for Jones if I recall

If Young and Bell are fired which they might be akin to Ford's MPP for refusing the vaccination that's on them.

You want your players to run through a wall for you ? Lead by example.

This is complete horsesh1t. Players and coaches being treated differently with different policies. Come October, it'll be interesting to see if a bunch of players get cut as they can't attend any games on the road.

Ego-Jones who quits on teams all the time = yeah, that's really building something consistent.

The latest information seems to imply that Young and Bell have been suspended not fired. The stated rationale, is that the two did not adhere to the MLSE mandate, that all employees have to be vaccinated. If this is true and I have no reason to doubt it, the accountability belongs to Young and Bell for the move. If Jones is brought in , I can not see him coming for anything less than the defensive coordinator's position. Will be interesting to see how this all rolls out.

After this week's game in Regina, the Argos' only road games are in Ott, Ham and Mtl. Flights and vax status are not going to be an issue unless someone prevents individuals from crossing provincial boundaries by land.

As for the different policies, the players are covered under a CBA; the coaches are not. MLSE, like any employer, is within its rights to require non-unionized employees to meet certain health and safety standards. I would hate to lose both Glen and Josh over this, but if they (or anyone else) decide not to get vaccinated, they will have to deal with the consequences of that decision from an employment standpoint.

No person should be in a position of losing employment because they refuse a “shot”. This is as Gabe said “Horseshit”.

Hindsight is 20-20 and it's hard to blame the CFL entirely, but requiring coaches to be vaccinated should have been league policy from the start of camp. That's one thing the NFL got right.

As for Jones, controversial though he may be to some, he's a tried and tested CFL d-coordinator, so good job by the Argos getting him as a mid-season emergency replacement.

If employers declare vaccination a requirement, those who don't get vaccinated (and aren't covered by a contract that supersedes such a requirement) can either lose their employment or launch a court challenge of the employer's right to make it. There's little doubt someone who loses a job is going to file such a challenge. It will be interesting to see how courts will react, and whether govts will pass enabling legislation that gives employers the right to impose such restrictions. I wouldn't want to guess how courts will rule, and whether this might ultimately get to the SCOC, but for now, what MLSE is doing is becoming increasingly common practice among employers.

Will CFL teams allow players on their own to drive during the playoffs? I think its a bit more complicated and really no one knows but coming from Naylor/Ambrosie, it seemed as if unvaccinated players will be forced to stay home and will not collect a pay cheque, if they cannot travel with their team.

This year we have had the best Argo defence in several years. To accomplish this so quickly and then fire the guy who is partly responsible (in addition to the personnel hiring of good players) makes no sense to me.
