I didn't actually realize that TFC played at this time of year. Looking at the schedule, I see that they don't actually play in Toronto until May 7th. Is that related to the construction, or do they always start the season on the road to avoid crummy March/April weather in Toronto?
Thanks. I might actually go to the May 1st game - I haven't seen live soccer in a long time, and it would be fun to watch TFC.
If i go I'll probably watch both teams. ;)
Never mind Soccer I hear Portland is a great food truck town and a town of some very cool history.
Go watch Portland play Vancouver.
I have actually been to a Timbers game, but it was several years back. Damn, even more than I thought - I remember it was a "Thirsty Thursday" game, and apparently they stopped that promotion about eight years ago!
It was definitely fun. I don't know if they still do this, but at the time when the Timbers scored a goal they had a guy spike-climb *fast* to the top of a ~20 meter vertical log and chainsaw a "cookie" off the top. Kinda like the REDBLACKS do, I think, except not with a boring horizontal log on supports.

I just picked up a ticket to TFC @ Portland on Sunday. I'm not familiar with either team, to be honest. Who should I be watching?
Thanks Gabe. So... SG is an attacking midfielder? I'll keep an eye out for #10.
It will be a great atmosphere for a sold out opener! Toronto has 3 designated players (salaries that only partially count against the cap), who are the stars of the team. Sebastian Giovinco, Jose Altidore and Michael Bradley.
Giovinco is the most exciting player in the league. His dribbling and skills are noticably above most, which is a joy to watch. He plays forward and will likely be scoring the goals.
Altidore is also a forward, and a well recognized American International player. He has had to take a bit of a back seat to Giovinco, but it still a good scoring threat.
Bradley is Captain of the team and also the American National team. He is an attacking mid and is often up and down the field more than anyone else.
As for Canadians, Jonathan Osario is a young midfielder with a bright future to watch for.
Thanks for the tips guys - they helped.
It was an exciting game, won (deservedly) by the Timbers 2-1. All of the goals were nice, and there were plenty of chances; it really should have been 3-2. The atmo at Providence Park was terrific, as Qman predicted. If that was a typical game I may go back and see some more.
I got a good look at Giovinco, who was pretty busy. I can see why people like him - he has quick, quick feet and creates space for other players. On the other hand I didn't like the way he (obviously) hung his head when a teammate made a poor pass to him - save that stuff for your *own* mistakes, buddy.
Fun stuff!
Well, it's reassuring to know that the pro TFC stance of this site's management hasn't changed (in all it's guises). Closing threads, editing posts and bannings to follow?
