My gut tells me that article isn't written if the Ticats lost today.

It's an opinion piece as indicated in the headline.

Agreed as other posters have noted, it's nothing new that we haven't read/heard before. It's just poorly timed.

Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson has been around for several seasons, but only took on the starting job this season when Nick Arbuckle was traded away in late October. The team’s top receiver, Ricky Collins Jr., had only 55 catches in 14 games, while running back John White led the club with only 450 yards rushing and is hurt and likely unavailable for the East Final. Leading tackler Dexter McCoil is also battling injuries.
This is the dumbest paragraph. He makes it seem like its embarrassing to have your top rusher with 450 yards, however doesn't understand they've been using two backs and is closer to 700 yards, which still isn't great but the Argos are in first place so who cares? And Collins actually played 12 games, and receptions leader Burnham has 67 catches in full 14 games. Weinke and White have 56 catches in 13 and 14 games played.

That's what Cox does, waits for the right time to get the most attention.
Unfortunately, MLSE's commitment to the Argos appears very low. Numerous stories about how hard it's been to get tickets, season ticket holders put on hold or not called back.

In Cox’s view it’s perfectly timed. He’s such an a-hole. Has nothing better to do than slam the Argos and the league.

He is and always was anti Argos and CFL, with his buddy Bob McCown.
However, it will be interesting to see how much advertising MLSE will do this week and ultimately how many people show up on Sunday?

Accepting that this an old hobby horse of mine but why is there never media mention of MLSE looking to reduce losses by selling off TFC? The total salary costs are 3 to 4 times that of the Argos. The Canadian TV numbers are miniscule and this year their attendance has been even worse than the Argos.

MLSE could sell TFC to an American investor who could move the club to an American city. At the present inflated price (Forbes), MLSE could realize a huge profit on their investment and rid themselves of a money losing investment.

It has been rumoured that Rogers is looking to divest themselves of part or all of the Blue Jays to assist funding their buy out of Shaw. Perhaps the money from the sale of TFC could provide MLSE with the funds to purchase part or all of the Blue Jays. Owning the Blue Jays instead of TFC is a winner.

    Just a thought.

    I
TFC isn't selling for anywhere near the Forbes price if it went on the open market.

[QUOTE=ArgoGabe22;157076]https://www.thestar.com/sports/footb...IeF7KDGeC1r97IYes he is the worst. Although there a few others that like to give him a run for his money. I guess a real sports journalist would focus on a classic match up between bitter rivals which hasn't happened since 2013. He is just another bitter asshole, with an opinion. Nothing

Because he has written so many negative articles about the CFL and more precisely the Argos, I now honestly think Damian Cox has a proposition bet with a bookie somewhere on the Argos folding. And it's not even that he doesn't make some valid points. It's just he never has anything good to say. Nothing about the quality of the product, how these very talented athletes put it all on the line for a working man's wage, the value proposition to being able to bring your whole family to a professional sports event for less money than a single Leafs ticket (in the nose-bleeds), the fact that the CFL is the only professional league that gets Americans to play a game on our terms, the history and tradition in the league... nothing. Since it is an "opinion" piece, he can say what he wants and doesn't have to present both sides of an issue normally expected in professional journalism, but as we all know, opinions are like ...holes. Everybody has one.

An article indicative of two fallen stars on the Toronto media scene, the Toronto Star and Damian Cox himself. Both are dying in relevance by the day. These two have little or no hope of ever coming back to prominence.

MLS is all based on future value, which is fin, but the current value should reflect what it is. It’s so messed up, I can’t think of any sports franchise where the actual value is nothing near the listed value. TFC has the highest payroll and MLSE loses way more a year than the 12 million Cox says they do with the Argos. If they are in to cutting losses, TFC is the way to go. At least they can break even with their TSN interests on the Argos.

Clickbait maybe but if you're not at least a little bit worried about the future of the team, then I don't know if you've been paying attention to the size of the crowds lately.

I think there needs to be a conversation about the Argos fan base. Is the City not working? Would Durham be better? Peel? Someone on an Argos Facebook group begged the question if Toronto is perhaps too white collar and that the Ticats appear to do better with being more blue collar. An interesting question. What is MLSE doing? Are they investing in marketing? Would it help? Pumping money into an MBT ad campaign would do little anyways IMO. The only issue is how these articles are written. Writers like Cox aren't really looking at the situation seriously, nor care to put any thought and research into his work. And it's written in a snarky tone and seems like the Argos folding is what he wishes for.

Even 3DN had a dumb article written from the Stamps fan who said travelling to BMO by traffic is a mess. Which is obvious given the size and population, however I started to drive to BMO vs GO and TTC, as its actually more convenient coming from Mississauga, but GO and TTC are still very good alternatives. The writer totally missed the point and it just seemed like a lazily written article. Imagine driving in Ottawa and Montreal from the suburbs to catch a game? It may actually be worse, but its cool to attack the Argos. I just don't think much research goes into any of these discussions and the original author isn't actually interested in finding answers. Rather than having the discussion, what's wrong in Toronto, they'd rather just take a shot at the team and see the haters pile on.

I can understand (though don't agree) with the Cox's of the world wanting to pile on but why would 3 Down go through such length? With 3 down football being their bread and butter for existence, what would they think would happen should the Argos (or any team) fold. There's no place to relocate them to.

If MLSE does decide to bolt for the XFL, people need to remember they recruited Montreal's owners into the league and it's not a big stretch that they could do the same again. Then everyone else will be forced to change their business models weather they like it or not.
