Which is why I am not willing to say Murphy or the players should have known better. Nobody should really say that, because they have no idea what they would have done if they were in Murphy or Edwards shoes. I have no problem with Murphy getting fired over this incident, and I predicted it, seeing as how MLSE is a corporation in which image means a lot. I just don't feel anyone should say they would have acted differently, because in truth, they don't know what they would have done.

    It's official. Murphy is gone.

“Following the organization’s internal review of the post-game incident of Sunday, December 5, the Toronto Argonauts announced today that John Murphy, Vice President of Player Personnel has been terminated effective immediately.”

For the record, since it apparently was not clear, good riddance to Murphy.

Sorry Paul I haven't had a chance to apologize for misreading your post so badly. I hope I didn't make you hit your boiling point.

I was just so appalled by that video. One of the first things pro athletes and presumably team execs learn is how to ignore the ugly things idiot fans yell at them in stadiums. If they didn't there'd be incidents like this every night in every league. You are a representative of the team, you gotta have some self-control in the heat of the moment or else you're out of a job.

I am wondering, though, if the fact Murphy wasn't officially the GM may have subconsciously given him the license to act a little crazier than a real GM would? Any clinical psychoanalysts out there?

Not sure about that, but I will say that it never made sense to me that Murphy had a much grander title than Pinball. V-P sounds way better than GM, and in the corporate world the usual pecking order is Pres, VPs, directors and managers.

Speaking of which, We know the team will not get their own president, but I for one would like to see a restructuring in which Pinball is named VP of football operations, and under him you have a GM and director of player personnel. We all know Murphy really handled the GM duties anyway. I think the title for Pinball in my scenario would be more appropriate.

Yep, but an even better scenario would be Pinball as VP (or president) of football ops and Chris Shewfelt as VP (or president) of business ops. One can dream, right?

Maybe if the Argos can one day average over 20k in the stands, this will become a reality.
