IF Doxtator is a no-show, and with Campbell gone, maybe the Argos look to O-line with their 1st rounder ?
I agree Doxtator will explore NFL opportunities first and foremost. I would love to see him in camp, but I assume we won't see him before next year at the earliest.

I cannot believe the Argos management/coaches decided to release Campbell without some form of game plan for his potential replacement. It could one of or a combination of the following:

    1) an American player presently on or potentially to be on the roster (Cage?)

    2) a present Canadian backup who might be deemed ready to move to a starter's role (Richards/Churchill?)

    3) Doxtator, if he has indicated he would be interested

    4) a player to be drafted this year

1 and 2 are much more likely scenarios. Doxtator probably wants to exhaust his NFL options before coming to the Argos. Any player available in the draft, who has the talent to become a rookie starter for the Argos is also likely to want a crack at the NFL before signing with a CFL team. Time will tell.

Pretty sure I might be in the minority here, but Grey Cup winning teams usually have sufficient veteran players to provide appropriate leadership, in addition to locker room chemistry and hopefully this move did not upset the applecart. On a more personal note I believe in keeping high character individuals as well. Some of our recent signings are not in my opinion "high character" individuals. It is what it is, I still maintain "win the right way".

Argos have signed undrafted FA receiver Matt Gledhill (Acadia) - attended one of the recent Regional Combines and put up some very solid testing #s; decent receiver size as well at 6-1, 212. Interesting; with young Canadian receivers like Nield & Baker still in the mix as well (?)

I think Gledhill is an extreme longshot to crack the roster OV. As for Baker I believe he can LS as well. Not sure if Reinhardts injury is career threatening or not but I think Baker can be a nice surprise this season.

Someone needs to replace Llevi Noel as our primary tackler on kicks. Maybe Gledhill, maybe Nield, maybe Baker. I agree Baker's long-snapping makes him a valuable commodity apart from his size and ability as a receiver.

Unfortunately, the salary cap dictates moves like this. Position is also a factor. 200K left tackles are more valuable and harder to replace than 200K right tackles.

Marvellous Martavious Bryant and former 2021 Argo signee whose passport problems prevented his coming to Canada last year has signed a two year deal with the Elks for the rookie's starting salary of $69,000, but with bonuses that could max out at a total of $153,000 in income.

The Argos released Daniel Braverman the other day. He started the year getting some playing time, but got hurt or just wasn't producing. Anyways, he was probably going to be in tough to make the team because of the depth at receiver.

Braverman was a surprise to make the team, and got off to a good start but pretty much disappeared after the first few weeks. He was not the kick returner we needed him (or someone) to be, and he was unlikely to beat out enough of our "name" receivers to warrant taking up a spot in camp.

Argos signed several players last month or so that I have not seen listed here: WR AJ Richardson, who was with Arizona from 2019-2021 but has not stats there and DL Connie Flagel, who was with Ottawa in 2020-21 and in Las Vegas and Tennessee in the NFL previously, but has no stats in either league.

Argos also signed another three Americans in April: WR Isaiah Wright, who had 27 catches for 197 yards in 14 games in 2020 with Washington in the NFL; DB Deion Harris, who played in the XFL and was on Washington's PR; and DB Maurice Carnell IV, who played one game for Hamilton 2019, but had no game stats, and spent a week with the Argos in 2018.

IMO there are seven guaranteed NAT spots: safety, MLB, LG, RG, C, RB and one receiver. There are strong options to go NAT at DT and second receiver, and lesser options at CB and RT. I'd bet we go INT at RT and CB, but I could easily see going NAT at DT and/or second receiver.

D.J Foster was released the other day at what was, apparently, his request. I liked him as a pass receiver, but I'm not sure if he could be the #1 running back. The Argos might be going all-Canadian at running back.

One of Brescacin or Gittens would sit then ?

I could see a platoon of one Canadian on the D-Line at all times: Smith at DE or Acheampong with Foote or Marion at DT; but if the thinking is 7 or even 8 only, there would be no need for that.

With Foster gone, both IMO of draft pick Adeboboye, and Pellerin could/should get real looks to spell Harris at tailback - like the Bombers had 2 solid and promising young Canadian RBs behind Harris.

Gittens is guaranteed to start, IMO. Brescacin is the strong second option at receiver I mentioned. I fully expect he will see a lot of playing time regardless of how the ratio shakes down, but I don't consider his spot a guaranteed NAT position.

Probably worth reminding everyone that we often gave regular playing time on offence or defence (not just special teams) to as many as 11 players last season. Our NAT contingent might be the league's strongest, with a few guys in "skill" positions who would play even if there was no ratio.

Wouldn't say those lesser options at CB. One is a former starter and the other should have been given a chance to start.
