$68 000 to come to Canada and play pro football. James Wilder spoke out why this will always be a problem and got roasted for it, however he was simply telling it how it is.

What choice does the league have but to keep salaries low? Until revenue goes up, this won't change.

Tough situation. More Canadian players? Don’t pay $500k+ for a QB? We shouldn’t be surprised to see Americans not showing up. Bryant would have taken home less than 40k, to play professional ball! Not worth putting your body through that.

I honestly don’t get your post. Nobody forced him to sign the contract.

Wilder will be making $0.0 in the CFL in 2022 if he doesn't get vaccinated.

True, nothing forced. I only used his example in relation to why many players never show. They sign near desperation contracts and then realize it’s not worth it. Although the Argos had some nice hits this year like Oakman and Ray, who likely also played this year for peanuts.

To me, American players that come up as CFL rookies should play for the league minimum. They are trying to use the league as a stepping stone back to the NFL. Once they have proven themselves in the league, and if they decide that the CFL is where they are to stay, then that is when they should get paid more.

Does anyone have any documented proof Bryant would have earned only CFL minimum wage if he had made the Argos?

I have a feeling some of these ex- - some sort of NFL name players either get well more than CFL minimum or, get some kind of promised/signing bonus if they make the roster and play.

We do know though (i guess?) that young Canadian players are held to minimum wage when they enter that "radically canadian" (sic) league.

You are free to believe in conspiracies as you wish.

Why would the CANADIAN Football League pass a rule/law that restricts top Canadian talent entering the league from earning more than league minimum ? Because the CFL GMs and the BOG clowns who hire them can't control/help themselves ?

Wilder complains about a lot of things and continues to show up.
The CFL salary structure is what it is at this point, if Wilder, Bryant or any other player doesn’t like it then don’t sign and go get another job.

They more than make up for it after their entry level Average Canadian starters that are veterans are among the higher paid players in the league. Back up Canadian players make more than back up American players. You can believe what you want.

And the highest paid job in the league, by far - QB - has been reserved for Americans only for basically decades.

CFL teams pay veteran American QBs, some of who are not that good or on the downside of their careers, a huge amount of their $MS, and American players eat up way more of a CFL team's $MS than Canadian players do (and again, with no CFL salary documentation this is all guessing, but I'd bet on it). But your typical conservative values, free market worshippers are all aghast that a few Canadian O-Linemen or a few veteran Canadian depth guys make good or above average CFL bucks (and when nothing forced some clueless CFL GM to pay them good buck$ or anything). What a crock of fairy tale $hite/ bill of goods some CFL fans have been sold.

I have never had a problem with Canadian players making more than American players. My problem is with your baseless point of view. I am on record as saying the ratio should go up and not down. You are just way more militant in the way you address your views. That and the fact the basically 90% of your posts are about this is what drives a lot of people on here nuts.

Apparently Bladek signed a two year deal for $180K and $200K. That seems like a lot for a non-all-star guard.

Good for Bladek (if that is true); If i wuz GM, wouldn't be paying him top CFL O-Line coin, but maybe this regime really values his play/future.

He is a great player but I also think we might have overpaid for him. Unless they know something we don't know about the Cap going up.

Bladek surprised me with his play this season -- I was not expecting him to be as good as he was, or the line to miss him as much as it did when he was out. He is virtually certain to
start at guard again next season, and locking him up now is a lot better than risking his departure. Fortunately we also have Campbell, Nicastro, Allen and Blake under contract (as well as Churchill and Giffen), so we have a shot at building a line with cohesion. Now let's re-sign Richards, and get an o-line coach signed up to replace McAdoo (assuming he departs).

Bladek totally exceeded my expectation of being a backup.

If you want to retain players who perform well, gotta pay the man. Good for him.
