McManus was linked to GM jobs before. I wonder why never with the Argos.
Argos Season Ticket Holder 2016-2021.
Ted Goveia is interviewing in Edmonton. He's been with the Argos before, seems like he'd be a very good option.
According to Dunk and Lalji, it seems Elks have hired Chris Jones as HC/GM. So that leaves us without a personnel guy or a DC, and quite possibly without a few of last year's assistants who might go with Jones (maybe MacAdoo and Jackson?).
I really hope we hire someone young and up-and-coming as GM (assuming Pinball gets a title more reflective of his overseer role); my top choices (not necessarily in this order) are Magri, Goveia and Rossetti. If we feel we have to go the experienced route, candidates could include Hervey, Barker and McManus. I don't have any interest in Sunderland or Desjardins.
As for a DC, who knows at this point but I like the idea someone mentioned previously of DeVone Claybrooks. I hope Stubler retires gracefully and doesn't need to be pushed out the door.

It’s official, Jones returning to Edmonton.
As Paul mentioned this probably will affect the Argos coaching staff, I would expect McAdoo to follow him west as the Elks OC.
Claybrooks would be high on my list as a candidate for the Argos DC job.
Personally I would like to see a guy like Goveia return to Toronto, he has paid his dues and has been a significant contributor to the success Winnipeg has had the last 2 seasons.

I would hope the team names Vince Magri as GM. They need to bring back Spencer Zimmerman as assistant GM. Sammy G will be joining Mr. Jones crew in Edmonton.
He will need to be replaced as well(Thankfully). The Jones hire demonstrates OV's view of a GOB club is alive and well.
You know I'm all over Claybrooks for DC. If McAdoo leaves, we will likely need new O-line coach as well as a secondary coach. I was happy with the play of the receivers this season, so I see no reason to replace Markus Howell, and would be nice to see Kevin Eiben continue to progress as a coach (maybe ready for DC, although Claybrooks is still my first choice.
As for replacement for Murphy, I would have no issue with any of the names Paul mentioned.
It's us vs the rest of the country
Yeah sure. I guess on the field success of his teams has nothing to do with it.
The way I see it, Jones is done quitting jobs and he will be in Edmonton for a long time. Every move he has ever made has been a career enhancement. The Cleveland Browns job was his chance in the NFL, and now that it's unlikely he will get another look down south, there really is no offer in the CFL that will put him above his GM role. I don't see him getting an offer for presidency anywhere. I think Edmonton made a great hire.

I would go a different direction for our new GM job.
Duane Forde who has been a great TSN on air commentator and who did apply for the RB position, but then taken his name off in the last moment.
Very knowledgeable and has covered the CFL and University leagues here probably like no other.
With Pinball as his boss and frankly moving up to the president's position, Forde would be a sure fit going forward.
Is Jim Popp available ? - very experienced CFL guy.
I can't agree with this. Trestman was obviously a good coach for most of his time in the CFL, but his dismissal at the end of 2018 was based at least in part on how he interacted with other members of the staff, not exactly indicative of someone with the type of character we'd want at the top. Hiring Chamblin to replace Trestman was a colossally bad decision by Popp.
Re spending, it's conventional wisdom around the league that the Argos spent without regard to salary-cap constraints this year, but what little evidence we have does not support that notion. Few of the highest-paid players by position (as cited by 3DN, for better or worse) were Argos. It's almost certain that we spent less on the quarterback position than any team other than, maybe, Ottawa. And we had a ton of first-year players whose salaries were kept in check by the CBA.
Popp's days of being an effective GM are done, IMO. I'd far rather give the reins to someone on an upward development trajectory, such as Magri.

Looking back at it the 2017 World Championship was a miracle.
Popp was also the mastermind of offering Bo Levi an outrageous contract on the opening day of free agency in 2019 and subsequently sat around waiting on Mitchell’s answer while most of the top free agents were signing elsewhere.
