Corey Mace to be named DC of the Argos

Not sure if this should get it's own thread, but figured to put it here for now...

Per Dunk, looks like Dinwiddie is finalizing to bring in Corey Mace as the new D Coordinator... guess that means Young won't be back, and no Claybrooks...

Interesting hire. Productive player on both sides of the border, and five years as a d-line coach is pretty good training.

Under Mace's direction, the Calgary D line has been very effective over the last 5 years. Hopefully, he is now ready to move up to take on a bigger role as D Coordinator. Looks like a good move

If this comes about, he seems to be experienced enough to move up to a co-ordinator role. He would have spent a couple of seasons playing under Chris Jones; hopefully he absorbed the best parts of Jones' system but has ideas of his own about how to attack on defence.

I am still seething about the Arland Bruce III trade for Mace’s rights. Seething!

On a positive note Mace should be a better DC than Bruce.👍

Wasn't even on anyone's radar to the best of my knowledge. Paid his dues though. Hopefully gives us a great pressure D.

No issues bringing in a good young positional coach as our DC, also nice to see he is Canadian!!
As many have commented he has paid his dues and may just bring a fresh approach to the Argonauts D.

Kudos to the Argos for bringing in some diversity to the coaching staff in the form of Mace.

Certain he has paid his dues in Calgary; but this does not bode well for in house coaching candidate namely Kevin Eiben who has put in his time with both Chamblin and the Dinwiddie coaching changes...figure he would have some gripes with the decision to make the Argos...Calgary coaching East.

Sayanora to Glen Young and Josh Bell - quite sad literally but I don't think they will be coaching in this league again unless they change their stance....

I don't know what Mark Nelson's status is -- but wouldn't mind seeing Eiben getting a shot as ST coordinator.

He was already the ST co-ordinator in 2017 and 18 under Trestman. He was the ST Assistant as well as LB coach in 2020, so I guess it's a possibility, but I think Mark Nelson was ok this past season in that role.

I wasn't totally blown away by the special teams in 2021. It just seems like (for the most part) Dinwiddie is looking for a younger coaching staff closer to his age which Nelson doesn't fit (mind you Dinwiddie did hire him).

I would not be surprised if Eiben ends up as Hamilton's ST coordinator. He was part of the Argo defence when Steinauer was on the team.

I was thinking the same thing Paul, he also finished his playing career in Hamilton.

Agree that is an option for Hamilton, but think Butler gets promoted and Daly retires and helps out on ST.

I certainly don't want one of our all-time great defensive players to go lick their coaching chops in Hamilton or perhaps more accurately take his coaching skills to the next level (see: Steinauer, Orlondo).

I was a little surprised. I thought they might wait until they had their entire staff in place before making any coaching announcements.

It wasn't really a secret anymore though so perhaps the team felt that it would just make more sense to make the announcement.
