    Mike Reilly Retires

Considering his recent injury history and the reduced capabilities that he faced last season, Mike Reilly's retirement is not surprising. However, for a couple of years he was the CFL's best QB and always played with great heart and intensity.

You have to respect a guy who is still (a) one of the best players in the league and (b) one of the two or three best-paid players in the league, choosing to retire rather than play (mostly for the paycheque) until he is lousy. IMO Reilly could have played another three seasons at a high level and earned another million dollars or so. Instead, he's going to put his life at risk as a firefighter for probably less than $100k per year.

I suffer from whatever the opposite of recency basis is. I have trouble placing more modern players onto a list of greats. He’s been called an all-time great and a HOFer since his retirement but I just can’t get a gauge on where he belongs in the conservation of great CFL QBs.

Probably somewhere between top 10 and 15 for me. Flutie, Moon, Jackson are my top three, and after that there are a bunch of second-tier guys including (in no particular order) Ray, Dunigan, Allen, Calvillo, Etcheverry, Lancaster and Ham. Maybe Reilly is in that second group.

    Condredge Holloway
    Dieter Brock
    Tom Wilkinson
    Henry Burris
    Cleo Lemon
I would also put all of these guys above Reilly.

I knew I would forget someone. Holloway and Brock for sure are top 15, and probably Burris as well. Not Wilkie, for me. I would rate Reilly ahead of Burris, and maybe ahead of Lancaster.

Reilly would not be top 10 IMO; top 20 - probably.

The bc game last year was my favorite ARGGO home game. Really enjoyed watching Mike R play over the years. Was hoping he would play a couple more years but seemed like the BC O Line didn't protect him so well. Wish the CFL could bend the rules re a signing bonus so players like Mike would consider to hang around. He is was excellent to watch. maybe somebody smarter than me knows... Does this mean Masoli lands in BC ?
