TORONTO ARGONAUTS FOOTBALL CLUB
GREY CUP CHAMPIONS: 1914, 1921, 1933, 1937, 1938, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1950, 1952, 1983, 1991, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2012, 2017, 2022
What an absolutely horrible contract. What did MBT do to earn 400k? He was disgraceful in the EF and embarrassed himself post-game on top of that. He's one of the most frustrating players to watch and can't throw a deep ball and runs a boring offense. This guy isn't going to sell tickets. 2022 is a lot cause.
I don't know about the contract numbers (I don't concern myself with the CFL cap), but I don't mind the team coming back with familiar faces on offense to grow together. I didn't see any sure QBs to take them to the Grey Cup available, but can't wait to see the fight for the backup position.
There are Eeyores on every board, it just takes news they don't like to lure them back into the discussion after being away for weeks/months.

It is a bit surprising, given that they did that for Banks, and given the precedent other orgs have set in the past (e.g. Argos with Collaros in 2014). Why not treat the player you no longer want with the respect he deserves? Unless Ham still kind of wants Masoli to accept a second-string contract and stick around?

How appropriate is Einstein's famous saying insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting different results.
Especially if this latest contract news of giving MBT the infamous underachiever $400k plus.
With three franchises potentially competing to sign a starting QB from a pool of talent headlined by Masoli, MBT and Trevor Harris the Argos made a sensible move in signing MBT.
$400k for a starting CFL QB on a one year term is the going rate these days.
I agree, upgrading the backup QB situation would be in their best interest.

A couple of weeks ago, there were folks on here claiming MBT had no leverage in negotiations.

Also, to those mentioning overpay, maybe MLSE felt like they put him in a really bad spot pre-EDF and factored that in. I think Pinball is a good judge of character, and knows MBT behaved uncharacteristically post-game too.

Please explain to me how this is posting over and over?
It is relevant today as MBT signed a new contract.
Yes like others here as well, I have expressed my dislike for him coming back after a strong argument can be made he has accomplished little at best during his stay.
At the same token, I would never say to you or others with a difference of opinions how you are going on and on.
Sharing of ideas in an open forum isn't that what it's about!!
Might be the "going rate" for most top CFL QBs these days; not all CFL teams will be paying that though.
Desperation big CFL buck$ signing this is IMO; Argos' top thinkers were afraid they would be stuck with no "proven" (sic) "veteran" QB.
MBT should have lots of opportunity to prove his nay-sayers wrong this coming season; hope he is surrounded by solid talent thru the offence AND some smart offensive coaching (most important IMO).
Harris, Masoli MBT.
Toronto, Ottawa, BC. Everyone was going to get a starter. Argos brass blinked and grossly overpaid an average QB.
Be interesting to see that; I doubt Harris plays much though, unless he goes to BC and Rourke proves very poor.
3 Down has it between Ottawa & the EE as the teams where Masoli will end up - most likely the starter in either place ?
So Masoli's GC #s - against the best D in the league - have him short of what MBT did in the biggest game of the season ?
I think that this is a simple example of supply and demand. Fact is that there are not a lot of established QB's on the market. I think that the only other plausible option would be Masoli and perhaps the Argos did their due diligence to find out that he didn't want to come here, didn't fit the offense or another reason. So bringing back MBT who knows the system already and is experienced may have been the only option.
Now the onus is on the Argo brass to bring in backups to develop behind MBT. I'd like O'Connor personally but you never know with good scouting, you could find another Jake Meier type. QB's seem to be better trained these days with private training and year-round quarterback camps.
