So bringing back MBT who knows the system already and is experienced may have been the only option.

Now the onus is on the Argo brass to bring in backups to develop behind MBT. I'd like O'Connor personally but you never know with good scouting, you could find another Jake Meier type. QB's seem to be better trained these days with private training and year-round quarterback camps.

Well, the Argos did find Collaros, Harris & Fajardo for the CFL.

What did Masoli do in that same game? MBT outplayed him twice head to head in victories, and I still stand by my comments that if the Argos don't allow the punt return TD in that game, Hamilton gets blown out. Huge momentum swing and Hamilton had done nothing offensively up to that point.

I firmly believe you will see a big season from MBT. This is the first time he goes into camp as the undisputed starter. It will make a huge difference. Too many people can't get over the back to back 4-14 seasons. They were really bad teams and he out performed every QB he has been up against the last 3 seasons. I have a great deal of confidence in him.

And the guy that found them is back with the team, so who knows?

Desperation big CFL buck$ signing this is IMO; Argos' top thinkers were afraid they would be stuck with no "proven" (sic) "veteran" QB.

MBT should have lots of opportunity to prove his nay-sayers wrong this coming season; hope he is surrounded by solid talent thru the offence AND some smart offensive coaching (most important IMO).
The only team that won’t be paying the “going rate” is the BC Lions who are paying Nathan Rourke peanuts as their starting QB.
I applaud the Argos for being proactive in getting the starting QB under contract before next week.

They would have had very good reason to be afraid of that. Head into free agency without a QB signed (other than a backup and a kid), and you might very well end up with a guy you don't like or want -- like Harris, who IMO is by far the least desirable of the three "names" who would have been FAs had MBT not been signed. Why take that chance?

Not to mention, the coaching staff knows what MBT brings to the table, and he now has a year's experience in Dinwiddie's offence. He is by far the best option of the three, IMO.

And we all saw what happened three years ago when the Argos went all in on Bo, only to have him take less money to re-sign in Calgary. If you target a particular FA, and base your whole strategy around that, it can blow up in your face quite easily.

Absolutely agree Paul, Popp sat around waiting on Bo Levi to make his decision while quality players were signing elsewhere.
Best to lock up your starting QB and hit the ground running on February 8th.

They obviously were. From 4-14 to a home playoff game is a massive difference.

You can also pin the loss on not being able to prevent a punt return TD, or too many breakdowns in passpro, or blitzing way too much in the second half, or a bunch of other things. MBT was hardly the obvious villain.

In fact, MBT played a very strong game IMO. No way should that East Final loss be pinned on him.

Having said that, I hope in 2022 that we will develop (Cole McDonald, Chad Kelly, whoever) our future starter. MBT's getting to the age where guys are more likely to hit the wall.

We have a habit of developing them, only to see them star on other teams (Collaros, Fajardo, Harris).
