    RIP Borje Salming

Very sad news as former Leafs defenseman Borje Salming has passed away.

It was so nice that he recently managed to come back to Toronto (just a couple of weeks ago) with his family for a special tribute at Maple Leaf Gardens. They did a really nice video and a lot of his old Leaf team mates came back to celebrate him and you could tell both his and his extended family were really touched by the response from everyone. He was certainly one of the greatest Leafs ever@

    Very sad for sure.

I was a big hockey fan as a kid - I was as huge a Leafs fan as an Argos fan until the mid-1990s - so the deaths of Bossy, Lafleur, and now Salming have been tough to see this year. My favourite Leafs were Salming and Mike Palmateer.

People (rightfully) associated him with Sittler, McDonald, Tiger, etc, but it is easy to forget that he actually played with the Leafs through 1988-1989 and was thus present for most of the Ballard circus of the 1980's. From all indications he remained a pro throughout all of that.

Absolutely. I remember his strong play during those playoff runs in 1986 and 1987. Those were the high points of that decade.

Ballard loved Salming, or I believe Imlach would have gotten rid of him too.

Salming is my all time favourite Leafs player and I admittedly have teared up multiple times the last couple of weeks with his illness and passing.
It's us vs the rest of the country

Salming was a big part of our childhoods and his illness and passing have definitely hit me also.
