Argos 'part ways' with Brandon Banks

The team has "parted ways" with Brandon Banks. IMO the only surprise is that it took as long as it did. He made a few big plays during the season and was a huge factor in the win on Labour Day, to his credit. But was generally a liability both on the field and on the sideline. It was very generous of Pinball and Dinwiddie not to cut him loose or staple him to the bench. He got his ring, now we move on with receivers who hopefully will run pass patterns the way they're drawn up.

The Argos have signed a number of WRs (Haydel, Hifo, Moore, Parker) and at least one could compete for a spot on the roster We can probably expect some more signings before the season begins. Phillips had an excellent game in the Grey Cup. Perhaps that was that a breakout game for him. Banks made the occasional great play last year but not enough to overcome his obvious weaknesses. With Banks and Harris not returning, it should open up some cap space. With his age, injury record along with his recent comments, I can't see Harris returning.

Unfortunately I agree, but I'd bring him back in a second if he was interested. He and Ouellette were a real force, separately and together, and it would give Adeboboye another year to apprentice.

I would be intrigued by a full season of Harris/Ouellette at running back myself.

This was an obvious move. I hope Brissett gets the first look to take his spot.

In truth Banks was mediocre at best with the Argonauts, but it was very satisfying seeing him win a championship in his only season in Toronto after several failed attempts with Hamilton.

Truth is Banks is a 35 year old WR with a fairly large contract in a salary cap league. His salary can be used to retain other priority Free Agents. Not sure about the earlier comment regarding Andrew Harris not returning. If he would come back at a reduced price he and AJO could give MBT a solid run game that he needs.

Back to Banks, his signing did contribute to a Grey Cup win and if thats the end then glad to see him retire on top not with Hamilton.

Though I, among others, was critical of Bank's failings , we should appreciate his play in the Labour Day game and for his contributions to the win in the championship. Let's hope the Ti-Cats sign him for one day, so he can officially retire from the organization that he served so well during his career.

I had hoped that he and MBT had finally developed chemistry after the Labour Day game, but Banks never repeated that performance.

I am forever grateful for Banks' contribution towards the Argos beating the Ticats and winning the Grey Cup.

He seems like the type of player who will play until it is no longer physically viable or no team has interest in him. I could be wrong, but I don't think we have seen the last of Brandon Banks

Smart move. The team has key pieces to sign and needs all the money available. Banks was underwhelming statistically, especially for how often they looked his way. It was great to see him leave the Cats for a championship. So funny. I can’t see any team, other than the Cats for sentimental reasons and possibly to their detriment, signing him. He probably retires a Cat during their opener if I had to bet.

Pretty sure he will call it a career. Cats had no interest in him last year and I can’t see it being any different this year. I did soften my opinion on him after seeing the way he was so close to his son though. Glad he came here and got his ring.

Congrats to Speedy B on going out a GC winner !

Argos should be able to revamp their receiving corps to much better for next season IMO; Gittens & Daniels (can Rogers bounce back ? - a top notch receiver talent IMO) hopefully still there, but other jobs should be open to upgrades; hoping Nield and/or Brissett can step-up; might be able to find a new import stud receiver or maybe draft a good one as well.
