Argos acquire Jordan Williams from the Lions for a 1st round pick

Wow - Argos trade 1st round pick for BC LB Jordan Williams - guy is a good LB (W-OLB or MLB), fast & athletic with a couple of years CFL experience now. Not usually big on trading top draft picks, but given the Argos are so well stocked in Canadian talent, the draft was not a big need this year IMO. Only thing is - not sure where he will fit in with Henoc at MLB and McManis top notch at W-OLB? Stockpile of riches with Canadian LB talent I guess - Cassar & Hoyte are good ones too. Hope the Williams deal is not a sign that Henoc will not return?

This Argo trade would indicate Muamba is retiring, can’t see him playing anywhere else.
    Let’s see what happens.

Tend to Agree. Muamba is active in the local community with roots in Brampton. His kids are getting older and I can't see him uprooting his life here just for another single season elsewhere..perhaps he takes the first part of the season off "retired" and comes back for the back 9 of the schedule or on the case of injury; much like Adriano Belli did years ago if I recall. Came out of retirement to play 3-4 games including the playoffs..

If Muamba is in fact calling it a career, I hope he stays on with the Argos in some capacity. He’s a very bright person and would be a huge asset. Otherwise, I’d like to see him go to TSN and replace some stale **cough** Suitor **cough** on air guys there.

A good move. Our 9th choice for the former 1st overall, who is now an experienced CFL player and saving on cap money as well. Does this mean Muamba is retiring?

Have to assume Muamba is retiring, which would be sad for us, but great for him to go out on the highest note imaginable.

JW is a hell of a player, and it always makes sense to trade a possible (late first-rounder) for a proven NAT. The downside is he has only one remaining year of contractual control, so we might either have him only for this year or have to pay a huge increase to him a year from now. But this is an excellent deal IMO.

EDIT: Changed JWL to JW -- I keep getting his name mixed up with Jordan Williams-Lambert.

I would hope that the Argos made it known to Muamba that this deal was on the table. As with MBT, I'm sure there has been communication between Henoc, Pinball and Magri.

Sounds like Muamba has been preparing himself with a possible future in media. Hence, his podcast, etc. Even the TSN panel is getting stale IMO.

The TSN panel has been stale for at least the past decade. New blood really needs to be brought in there.

I like this addition and even more if Muamba is indeed retiring.

Apparently Jordan Williams asked for a trade to the East, and I assume the Argos sweetened the pot with a 1st round pick that I guess neither of the other 3 Eastern Teams were willing to pony up. Interesting enough, Lalji believes that Muamba is NOT retiring - so lets all hope he signs this week following the Harris annoucement of earlier today.

Both can play. Muamba wasn't an every down LB. Especially seen in the Grey Cup.However, based on the article (family history) should someone like Williams be even able counted as a national? Good for the CFL but a bit iffy whether he's "Canadian".

Williams being deemed a Canadian cancels out Bede being an American.

And the GOBs who run the CFL are now allowing veteran Americans to qualify as "Nationals" to further displace Canadian talent getting to play in the pro league in their own country.

Williams got displaced at MLB for BC by Ben Hladik who is a bigger LB, maybe more of a true MLB type and who played U Sports ball - so similar to Jack Cassar.

Great to have a D talent like Williams and they should be able to find ways to play him on D - even with Muamba & McManis in place, sub for certain packages, plus he could take over for either if they go down with injury, or decide to retire by next season.

Like Alex Singleton, Drew Wolitarsky and Ben Cahoon, I refer to him as a loophole Canadian.
