The Argos were up 36-7 late and Marquel Fleetwood scored a 1-yard touchdown to make the score 43-7 with less than a minute left.
Was there any controversy over the Argos running up the score that can be recalled?

GREY CUP CHAMPIONS: 1914, 1921, 1933, 1937, 1938, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1950, 1952, 1983, 1991, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2012, 2017, 2022
I don't recall any, but I'd need to refresh my memory on the situation. How did Argos end up on the one? How much time was left in the game? How early was Flutie pulled for Fleetwood?
If you have are first and goal at the one with more than a minute left, I suppose you could take a knee three times and turn the ball over, but otherwise what are you supposed to do?

Any interesting sidebar. I was at the game on the Argo side and during one of the breaks Condredge Holloway who was at the game proposed to his then girlfriend. The crowd loved it.
GO ARGOS!!!

As a lifetime Argo and CFL fan I need to read your books. Being born in Ottawa in 1967 my parents had Rough Riders season tickets in the 1970s. Eventually I was the one going to the games with my Dad, not my Mom from 1975 on. I loved those teams and the players all stayed in the city during the off season. I remember going to charity basketball games and I got all their autographs; Holloway, Clements, Gabriel, Avery, Coode, Organ, Tyler Holmes father who was the RB, etc....We moved to Toronto in 1978, and got Argo season seats in 1982. I had the pleasure of watching Condredge play for my 2 favorite teams. OV is accurate when he says Canadian QB Bill Robinson was as good or better than both Clements and Holloway. In training camp he was the best QB. It was a topic of conversation in the city that summer. Most fans thought he should have been the starter. Don't forget this is the city where the greatest Canadian player of all time Russ Jackson led the city to 3 Grey Cups and retired at the peak of his skills.
Anyhow, Condredge holds a special in my memories. I watched him play some amazing games. Years later in the 2000s while on a business trip in the US I was talking with a colleague from Tennessee. He wa a huge Holloway fan from his University of Tennessee days. He knew nothing about what he accomplished in Canada and I educated him. Peyton Manning and a Kenny Chesney honored Condredge in a documentary they produced.
And to be there and witness him get engaged was a special moment.
As an Argo fan and Ottawa fan (1b), I have had the privilege of watching some all time great QBs play the game of football. And I mean football, not just Canadian football
GO ARGOS!!!
The touchdown was with under a minute left, and apparently Als coach Bob Price was a bit peeved.

If the Argos could have killed the clock without turning the ball over to Mtl, I guess I can sympathize a bit. But if the only way they could avoid scoring was to take a knee and then give Mtl the ball, I can see why Matthews would not do that. Somehow Price's team allowed the Argos to get to the one, so you reap what you sow.

The Don was one to never take the foot off the gas peddle. If the Argos could score that season they would. He barely pulled the starters, even as they were blowing up their opponents. The back up QB's through for 209 yards combined over the back to back Grey Cup seasons.
