Hope he turns out a better CFL QB than Johnny Manzier.

While his cockiness can be a little off-putting, it looks to me like Kelly has 50 times the work ethic that Manziel did.

Hopefully he turns out to be as good as he thinks he is with the Argonauts this season, time will tell.
I also listened to the entire thing. He gives them (the Pardon My Take hosts) what they want to hear. They didn't invite him to talk Argos or CFL. The only thing I didn't like that he publicly called it a "shit contract" and was quick to clarify. But he's a story teller, even the commenters complimented his story telling and said he needs a podcast.

The only mention is the “shit contract” and scoffing at the Argonauts facilities near the end of the interview speaks volumes IMO.
Hopefully the team continues to work hard to keep their options open at QB beyond this season.

You can’t blame him to his comment on the facilities. They practice on a field that isn’t CFL sized and need portable goalposts. Then often have to move practice when Lamport isn’t available. Likely the only team in the league without a full time practice facility.

MLSE can't afford to do anything about that.

Hopefully, Kelly can move on from the minors with a good season - he's like to go to The Show (NFL fan-boys bow down and rejoice !)

Well at least we know he is not lacking in confidence.

I wonder if MLSE would accept 3rd class practice facilities for any of their other teams. We could expect the Argo president to do something---oh wait --he is only a part time president and more interested in the soccer team. Until the team gets a full time president who has only one priority (the Argos), don't expect any great improvement.

What would he have done when the Argos were practicing on tennis courts like they were during Bradley’s time as owner, Lamport is positively lavish in comparison.

The talking head who masquerades as the Argos president hardly knows or cares who they are, a situation that badly needs to be corrected.

Did Kelly have a plethora of offers, other than the "shit contract" the Argos were offering?

Simple practice facility solution: let the Argos practice at their home stadium and tell the Soccer People to stuff it.

The Argos are entering their 150th year. The oldest professional team in North America. The Roughriders have already announced each of their home games themes, as have some others....BC.
I have zero confidence in the Argo President to create what should be a magical season to celebrate. Post championship and the rich history the most successful CFL team has.MLSE may be a little busy with the Maple Leafs preparing for another playoff run, and the Raptor season freshly ended, but that's why they have individual Presidents for each team. It would be nice foe the football team to have some of his attention this year.

While not ideal the Argos this offseason took over the old TFC weight and Turf room inside BMO field. It has been freshly renovated and by all accounts looks pretty decent. Still need a proper facility but its a step in the right direction.

Any QB in the CFL could play well enough to get an NFL contract any given year. I'm sure few would turn it down if they were offered.

Let the kid play. Who cares what he says or thinks off the field? If he plays his butt off, does well and earns and NFL contract, it probably means the Argos will have a really good year. I see no downside to Kelly.

The comparisons to Manziel are a little weak at this point. I believe in forgiveness and it looks like Kelly has shown he can turn his life around. It's not like he's putting on disguises and flying off to party in Vegas.

Have any of you criticized your employers outside of work? By that logic, your boss should probably replace you then.

I can’t decide how good I want him to be. If he has a Rourke-like season and wins another Cup, as he seems to be predicting, well nothing would make me happier. It’s been a very long time since we’ve been able to bask in the giddy, stress-free glory of a dominant Argonauts season, and I’ve been thinking it’d be worth it even if it meant Kelly was one-and-done.

But I’m not so sure anymore. If he has only a decent season, you know, flashes of brilliance but too many mistakes, then obviously it’s far less likely he goes south, and far more likely he signs here longterm. And maybe that’s better for the franchise going forward than a glorious one-and-done, I dunno. The good news is this team can probably repeat even with only decent QBing, which I guess would be the best result of all.
